No Escape Room Exit Puzzle Solution
The Smiley Man has created a tricky escape room he doesn’t intend for anyone to beat. This dangerous trap is called the No Escape Room, and completing it is one of the optional missions in Borderlands 4; you can’t just use brute force – the Wombo Combo – to get through.
Borderlands 4 features a lot of side quests, but most don’t really challenge your mind. The No Escape Room is an exception-you’ll need to crack several puzzles to survive. Fortunately, we’ve already completed them all, so things should be a bit easier for you.
Here is how you complete the No Escape Room side mission in Borderlands 4.
No Escape Room Side Mission Location and Requirements

The No Escape Room side mission in Borderlands 4 can be found at the No Escape Room location within the Terminus District of Dominion City. Once you’ve entered the city district, look for a tunnel marked with several purple arrows guiding the way.

Go into this tunnel and keep an eye out for arrows – they’ll lead you to a button. Once you find it, press the button to start the optional side mission.
To start this mission, you simply need to have reached Dominion City as part of the main story. After you’ve finished that, the side mission will unlock and become playable.
No Escape Room Door Puzzle Solution

Once you start the No Escape Room side mission by pressing the button, you’ll find yourself in a room with three doors. The Smiley Man will be watching you from behind glass. He’ll instruct you to pick the right door to continue – the other two will result in immediate failure. Choose wisely!
In this situation, the correct door to select is the yellow one. It’s pretty clear, as it doesn’t have any blood, Dead Bolts, and generally looks much cleaner than the others.

If you need more confirmation that this is the right door, you can also find the Echo Log clue in the room. You’ll find this clue amongst the rubble to the right of the doors.
No Escape Room Key Box Puzzle Solution

As the Smiley Man pointed out, the second puzzle involves the excitement of finding a key to unlock a box. However, unlike the previous one, this box doesn’t contain a rare class mod. Instead, it simply lets you escape the puzzle room.
To get out of this room, you’ll need to open the boxes in the right sequence. Successfully opening each box will reward you with a key that unlocks the next one.
Open the boxes in the following order:
- Second from the left, marked with a fan symbol
- Farthest to the right, marked by a bird symbol
- Second from the right, marked by a cow symbol
- Farthest to the left, marked by an Order symbol
- Central chest, marked by an eyeball symbol
If you open the chests in the right sequence, you’ll escape this room and be able to move on to the next puzzle.
It is important to note that you can also find hints in this room in the following locations:
- First hint: Found on the table with the first key
- Second hint: Found on a board in front of the waterfall
- Third hint: Found next to the drain pipe to the right of the boxes
- Fourth hint: Found inside the air vent to the right of the boxes
- Fifth hint: Found in the hole to the left of the boxes
To the right of the boxes, you’ll find an Echo Log inside the hole. Be warned – the Smiley Man will accuse you of cheating if you listen to it.
No Escape Room Maze Puzzle Solution
The third puzzle in the No Escape Room side mission is a big maze. It might look complicated, but the answer is surprisingly easy: just follow the carrots.
As you begin the maze, you’ll see carrots on the ground, all pointing to the left. This is a consistent clue throughout the maze. Whenever you encounter carrots, simply follow the direction their tips indicate, and they will guide you to the exit.
Be careful! The maze contains hidden dangers like fire hazards and jumps that you’ll have to avoid. It’s important to have a good Repkit – something like the Triple Bypass – to help you withstand any damage you might take.

Similar to the earlier puzzles, there’s an Echo Log that offers a clue to solving this one. To locate the Echo Log, head to the right as soon as you begin the maze and continue along the path until you reach the fiery trap.
Ahead, you’ll find a short dead end right before the trap. In that dead end is an Echo Log which holds a clue to solving the maze.
No Escape Room Exit Puzzle Solution

Once you finish the maze, the Smiley Man will give you one last challenge. He’ll lower you into a room and then fill it with gas.
Okay, so when the room begins to fill with gas, I quickly use my grappling hook to yank off that vent right above me – the one to the right. That reveals the control mechanism. Once I see it, I shoot it, and that stops the gas from spreading and, even better, destroys the energy shield that was blocking my way to the Smiley Man! It’s such a relief to finally get past that shield.
Following a brief struggle, he will die in the burning room he originally intended for you. You can then exit through the door on the left. Don’t forget to snap a picture as you leave and claim your prize from the red chest.
