Fans of the X-Men game are disappointed to learn it likely won’t be released on PC. A recent report indicates Sony is no longer planning to bring its exclusive, single-player games to platforms outside of PlayStation.
Sony used to reserve its popular game franchises exclusively for PlayStation consoles. This was a key factor in the PlayStation 4’s success, as games like Bloodborne and God of War drew many players to the system. But during the PS4’s lifespan, Sony began releasing these games on PC, typically six months to a year after they first launched on PlayStation.
Sony Is Scrapping First-Party Single-Player PC Ports of PlayStation Games
Sony appears to be ending its practice of bringing PlayStation exclusives to PC. Reports suggest the company wasn’t happy with PC game sales, and Jason Schreier of Bloomberg confirmed this, stating that Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Hermen Hulst informed staff they will no longer release single-player console exclusives on PC.
SCOOP: PlayStation studio business CEO Hermen Hulst told staff in a town hall Monday morning that the company’s narrative single-player games will now be PlayStation exclusive, confirming Bloomberg’s reporting from earlier this year. Original story from March: www.bloomberg.com/news/article…—
Sony plans to keep releasing multiplayer games on both PlayStation and PC, because reaching a larger player base helps those titles succeed. However, they won’t be bringing their single-player games—like future installments of God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn—to PC. This means the upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine game, developed by Insomniac, will only be available on PS5.
Marvel’s Wolverine’s PC Port Looks Like It’s Not Happening
Following the release of Saros, many fans anticipated Marvel’s Wolverine would also be available on PC, just like Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man titles. However, if Sony is limiting its focus to games other than story-driven, single-player experiences, then Marvel’s Wolverine will likely remain exclusive to the PlayStation 5.
It’s disappointing that Marvel’s Wolverine is only available on PlayStation consoles, but it’s understandable why Sony made that decision. They want to encourage people to buy their consoles, rather than play the game on other platforms. The only real drawback is having to wait a little longer to play, which isn’t a big deal for many gamers who already have plenty of other games to enjoy.
Since the PlayStation 5 is getting more expensive, PC gamers might find it cheaper to watch gameplay videos online instead. Fortunately, games like Marvel’s Spider-Man from Insomniac are already available on PC.
