Disney’s All-Time Great Movie Franchise Returns In Exactly One Month

Disney has created some of the most popular and successful movie franchises in history, including classics like The Lion King, Pirates of the Caribbean, Moana, Lilo & Stitch, and Frozen. These films continue to be valuable properties for the studio, inspiring new releases. However, Disney’s success with franchises is also due to its strategic acquisitions of other companies.

In the past twenty years, Disney has expanded its entertainment empire by acquiring Marvel, Lucasfilm, Pixar, and 20th Century. This has allowed them to enjoy major successes like completing the initial story arc of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, bringing back the Star Wars saga with The Force Awakens, and continuing the hugely popular Avatar film series.

These franchises are often considered among Hollywood’s best. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has achieved incredible, unmatched success, and Star Wars continues to be a major force in entertainment. Disney has also revitalized the already popular Toy Story series with Pixar, finding creative ways to continue the story.

It’s been seven years since the last film, and now we’re just one month away from the release of Toy Story 5! The movie will hit theaters on June 19, 2026, and will also be available in premium large format. Fans are getting excited as the wait to see Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, and the rest of the gang again is almost over.

Toy Story 5 Has Lofty Expectations

Fans are eagerly awaiting the release of Toy Story 5 next month, and the film is facing a lot of anticipation. The Toy Story movies have always been incredibly popular and are considered among the greatest animated films ever made, not just from Pixar, but across the entire film industry.

Toy Story 5 has a high standard to meet and will be judged against the previous films. Because audiences love the earlier movies so much, any flaws in the story, characters, or overall message could lead to significant disappointment.

As a huge movie fan, I’ve been looking at the Toy Story scores, and they’re incredible. The first two movies are completely perfect on Rotten Tomatoes – a 100% rating! Even Toy Story 3, which is still amazing, only got a 97%. What’s really interesting is how audiences have reacted. Toy Story 2 has the lowest audience score at 87%, but Toy Story 4 actually blew that out of the water with a 94%! Honestly, if Toy Story 5 doesn’t measure up to these numbers, even if people generally like it, it’ll feel a little disappointing, you know?

In addition to the fantastic reviews, Toy Story 5 has a high financial bar to clear. The previous two movies each earned over $1 billion globally, and anything less would be considered disappointing, potentially signaling that audiences are losing interest in the Toy Story franchise.

Early box office predictions for Toy Story 5 suggested it could be a huge success. The movie is likely to do very well if it feels like a must-see experience in theaters. However, if it doesn’t capture that excitement, the long-term future of the 31-year-old Toy Story series could be uncertain.

Is Toy Story 5 The End Of The Franchise?

While Toy Story 5 is coming soon, Pixar hasn’t decided if it will make any more films after that. Disney hasn’t announced or scheduled Toy Story 6, but director Andrew Stanton has hinted at possible ideas for a sixth movie, suggesting ways the story could continue.

As a fan, I’m really happy to hear that Toy Story 5 doesn’t feel like a definitive end to the whole story! It sounds like Pixar is leaving the possibility open for future adventures with some of our favorite characters, which is great. They aren’t necessarily setting up a sixth movie right now, but they’re not ruling it out either, and that gives me hope!

The future of Toy Story beyond a potential sixth film hinges on how well Toy Story 5 does. If the fifth movie is a hit with audiences and performs well in theaters, Pixar will likely continue making Toy Story films. However, if interest in the franchise wanes, the studio might decide to end the series.

Pixar’s future films will also be important. If they can create new popular movies and successful series, like with Inside Out, they won’t need to depend on Toy Story as much. Ideally, Toy Story 5 could be a huge success as a final chapter, allowing other Pixar stories to become the main focus.
