I felt just like Jason did a few weeks ago when he found the boat a mess after the crew’s night off. Returning to “Coconut Bar” this week was the same – total chaos, with everything out of place. While Jenna and Ben were dealing with their breakup, João kept pursuing Daisy, and Barbie was urging Eddy to end things with Jenna. By the end of the night, things had completely spiraled out of control. People were shouting, slamming doors, and running around, and no one could see things clearly anymore.
Jenna, still at the bar after Ben leaves, tearfully tells Daisy she has feelings for both Eddy and Ben. Daisy bluntly advises her to avoid them both. Instead, Jenna confronts Eddy, accusing him of showing Ben her text messages. Eddy denies it directly, claiming he only told Ben about them. Everyone’s increasingly wild behavior is fueled by heavy drinking throughout the night, which also explains why boundaries start to disappear on the boat.
Inside the cabin, Ben reveals to Eddy that he kissed Jenna a week prior – the same night she went from Ben’s bed to Eddy’s. Eddy wants to talk to Jenna and resolve the situation, but Ben warns him against it, accusing her of playing them both. Ben weakly calls Eddy a coward. After witnessing this drama for over half a day, Barbie announces she’s no longer taking Eddy’s side, as he’s obsessively pursuing Jenna. Eddy tries to win Jenna back, but she’s actually trying to reconcile with Ben. Ben, however, tells her he’s no longer interested in pursuing a relationship with her.
Jenna completely lost control, exploding in anger and confronting Eddy in front of everyone. She stormed upstairs, knocking things over and pushing past Daisy, who tried to stop her. Alesia and João attempted to calm her down, but she was too upset to listen, even making a hurtful comment about Alesia’s past feelings for Eddy. She retreated to her cabin and locked herself inside, ignoring Daisy’s frantic knocking. The whole scene felt like a dramatic teenage argument. Everyone else went to bed feeling anxious and anticipating a difficult morning, expecting regret and bad hangovers. However, João had a good night, finally connecting with Daisy. He told her she made this season special, and she responded by joining him in his bed and sharing a goodnight kiss.
Let’s talk about Daisy and João before getting into Jenna’s drama. It looks like their casual relationship is moving forward. During a date, João confronts Daisy about her mixed signals – they’re close at night, but she acts distant in the morning, and he worries this will ruin things. Daisy says she likes him, but doesn’t offer much reassurance. She explains she’s hesitant because of past failed romances on boats. Despite trying to understand her, João’s questions mostly seem like he’s just wondering why they haven’t become more intimate.
It breaks my heart watching Eddy. This morning, he sweetly texted Jenna asking for a hug, and it just…killed me knowing where she was. She was with Ben, actually making up after everything, while he searched the whole boat for her. And what they were talking about! She was telling Ben she needed someone ‘dominant’ and then…they kissed. I’ve really been on Jenna’s side all season – I think she’s hilarious and works so hard – but this felt like a total betrayal of Eddy’s trust. I honestly wanted to send her a book about feminism or something, to make her think about what just happened. When Eddy finally found them together, he was just utterly crushed and spent the whole day moping. Jenna and Ben both realized they’d gone too far, and Jenna admitted she wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of that kind of treatment. Ben, understandably, went to Jason for advice, and the captain encouraged him to be honest with Eddy. But Eddy just shut down – he didn’t want to talk to Ben, he didn’t want to talk to Jenna, he didn’t want to talk to anyone. It’s just so sad to watch him hurting like that.
I really feel bad for Eddy. Life moves quickly when you’re in a showmance, and the producers definitely want to create drama. However, Eddy and Jenna only went on one date. It seems like he’s more upset about being made to look foolish on TV than about Jenna not being interested, and that must be painful. I’d prefer he just admit that, instead of pretending to be heartbroken over a relationship that barely lasted a week. Jason gave Eddy some good advice: if someone is this difficult to get along with, they’re probably not a good match. This was the moment hinted at in last week’s episode, and I thought Eddy might quit. He told Jason he wasn’t sure he wanted to stay, but the captain convinced him to continue. Jason reassured Eddy that he’s a valuable member of the crew and encouraged him to focus on finishing the season. Jason even gave him a comforting hug, which is exactly what Eddy needed. It was a genuinely touching moment.
Okay, so the gossip really started flying around the boat! Ben told João he and Jenna had kissed, and then everyone knew – João spilled to Daisy, Barbie, and Alesia. Jenna eventually fessed up to Alesia, and Betul was the only one smart enough to point out that Eddy pulled a similar move with Alesia before. Honestly, it was a lot! That drama was quickly interrupted by the next guests arriving – James and his boyfriend Kai, all the way from L.A. James is a landscape designer, and true to form, he casually dropped a ton of celebrity names when talking about his work. Their preference sheet was pretty chill – they wanted a ‘Garden of Adam’ theme for dinner, but let the chef decide the food – but onboard? A whole different story. They had a mountain of clothes to be steamed, wanted us to unpack everything, and their drink orders were ridiculously specific – like, Grey Goose with still water and muddled ginger. Talk about high maintenance!
Things were pretty rough before our charter guests even arrived. Jason had to deal with a major issue with Jenna, one of the stews. He called Daisy in to get the full story, and apparently, Jenna had really caused problems with everyone – all the departments were affected! Jason was shocked because Jenna’s usually been a great team player, and he was worried this drama could make someone quit. So, the next morning, he decided to give her a wake-up call by taking away her second stew rank. He didn’t want to fire her, but he needed to make sure everyone understood we needed to maintain a high standard of work. Surprisingly, Jenna handled it really well at first, but she broke down crying later in the pantry. Alesia tried to comfort her and told her to work hard to get her rank back, but honestly, Alesia thought Jenna deserved it. It’s a tough situation, but Jason’s trying to keep everything running smoothly.
Everyone on the boat felt Jenna had it coming, and even her mom advised her to stop seeking approval from men and focus on herself. The fact that her mom was so level-headed, and that Jenna seemed genuinely sorry, were the saving graces of the situation. It’s clear to me that Jenna is still young – only 22 – and regrets what she did. Eddy, however, wasn’t interested in hearing apologies, choosing instead to listen to podcasts that painted women in a negative light. He didn’t want an apology from Ben either. When Ben tried to apologize, Eddy bluntly called him awful. The next day, after calming down, Eddy admitted he’d been emotional and realized they’d both been manipulated, and he wanted to make sure Ben was doing okay. Ben appreciated that and promised to stay away from Jenna.
The most heartwarming part of this intense episode is a short conversation between Betul and Jenna. After Jenna’s apology to Eddy doesn’t go through, Betul comforts her as she cries. Jenna admits she messed up, and Betul simply replies, “Sometimes, we all do.” Betul doesn’t excuse Jenna’s actions, but she offers understanding – a surprisingly kind moment on a reality show where mistakes are usually just used for drama. This moment, and the way the episode then shifts to the workplace falling apart after a half-hour of personal conflict, shows how strong this season is. It’s a truly non-stop ride!
Daisy and Ben had a disagreement when Daisy requested Ben prepare the crew’s lunch sooner next time. Ellie jokingly suggested serving Lucky Charms, which amused Ben but would likely infuriate Daisy if she’d heard it. Later, Jenna teased Daisy that her recent demotion meant Ellie would finally get the promotion she’d been wanting since she started working on the boat. Daisy was annoyed, especially since she saw Ellie as the most junior member of the team. She felt Ben was unfairly praising Ellie.
As the party continues with water toys, Ben approaches Jenna at the bar, seemingly to end their relationship for good, though he explains it in a roundabout way. He says things are complicated and he doesn’t want to jeopardize his own position, emphasizing he’s just there to do his job. The age gap between them is significant – Ben is twenty years older than Jenna. It’s unsettling that he later describes her demotion as “an example for everyone,” and he should probably take more ownership of the situation and act more thoughtfully.
Ben had a vision for serving whole snapper, wanting servers to filet it at the table. However, Daisy immediately pointed out the problem: no one on staff knew how to filet a fish, and they wouldn’t be able to do it quickly enough even if they did. She asked him to reconsider, but Ben insisted the fish deserved to be presented whole. Both were stubborn, with Ben refusing to change his idea and Daisy not offering a solution for the difficult filleting. As a result, when the fish arrived – even for Jason and his guests – everyone was confused about what to do with it.
Ben had a couple of options to handle the fish: he could have quickly shown the crew how to fillet it, or he could have done it himself. However, both would have taken too much time when everyone was already busy. The situation was awkward – guests struggled with their fish, and Jason and João ended up having to assist them. To make things worse, when Ben went to help, none of the crew members were available; Jenna and Daisy were busy with drinks, and Barbie and Alesia were attending to cabins. While I usually defend Daisy, she did abandon the task when it became difficult, and could have at least attempted to find a solution. Ultimately, arguing about who’s at fault isn’t helpful. Jason correctly identified the problem as a lack of communication between the kitchen and the service staff.
