How to Get the Tadpole Depth Module in Subnautica 2

It’s easy to get caught up exploring the shallow areas of Subnautica 2, enjoying the beautiful scenery and creatures. But eventually, you’ll need to venture out into the open ocean and explore deeper waters.

The ocean’s depths hide many wonders and dangers, including bizarre, otherworldly objects and creatures eager to either escape or attack.

Exploring the deep sea with your Tadpole submersible has limitations. While you’re personally equipped to handle the immense pressure, the vehicle itself isn’t. Below 250 meters, the Tadpole will begin to fall apart.

What’s the solution? The Tadpole Depth Module! Let’s find out where to locate its blueprint and how to install it on your vehicle.

Data Box Location

You can find the blueprint by locating a data box with the necessary information. This box appears shortly after you discover the Alien Ruins and start exploring the eastern side of the map.

Leaving the Alien Ruins, head southeast and start gliding forward with your tadpole. You’ll soon see a big underwater mountain full of Needler Fish. This is a good place to gather Celestine and Creature Enamel, which you’ll need later on.

Just swim past the fish and go through the blue ring to enter the cave under the rocks. You’ll see a small light next to a hole in the floor. Place your Tadpole near the top of the cave, above 250 meters, then swim down through the hole.

You’ll know you’ve found a Tadpole Wreck when you hear beeping and see an orange glow. Right in front of it, you’ll find the Depth Module Data Box. Don’t forget to scan the wreck itself – you might find a piece of the Tadpole Haul Chassis, which lets you carry more stuff!

Crafting the Depth Module

Head back to your base and make sure your Modification Station has power. If you haven’t built one yet, you can find it in the Alien Ruins hub.

To craft the module, you’ll need the following items:

  • 3x Celestine
  • 2x Enameled Glass
  • 1x System Chip

You can find Celestine near the Depth Module Data Box. Creature Enamel is also found in that area, and you can use it along with Glass to craft Enameled Glass.

The System Chip can be crafted using a Fabricator by combining a Wiring Kit and 2 pieces of Quartz.

Once you get the Depth Module, go back to your Tadpole. On top, you’ll find a small, rectangular compartment right behind the power cell. Open it and plug in the Depth Module. That’s it! Now your Tadpole can dive up to 450 meters. Let the exploration begin!
