Beginning October 7th, PlayStation Plus members will be able to add three new games to their libraries at no extra cost. If you want them, be sure to download them by November 3rd, as they’ll disappear after that date. This month’s selection includes a wild simulation game, a highly-rated indie title, and a great game that’s perfect for getting you in the Halloween spirit. Keep in mind that all three games are available to PlayStation Plus subscribers regardless of their membership level.
Next week, and through the month of October, PS Plus subscribers can claim three great games
The PlayStation State of Play last week showed us gameplay for Marvel’s Wolverine and revealed October’s free PlayStation Plus games, but the full details are now available on the PlayStation Blog. This is also your last chance to get September’s free games, including the award-nominated Psychonauts 2, the unique indie title Viewfinder, and the beloved, relaxing game Stardew Valley. These games will only be free to download until October 7th, when the new games become available.
Alan Wake 2
Even with strong competition from games like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Tears of the Kingdom in 2023, Alan Wake 2 still won three Game Awards for Best Direction, Best Art Direction, and Best Narrative, and was also a finalist for Game of the Year and Best Action/Adventure Game. However, many people will likely remember co-director Sam Lake and the incredible musical performance during the awards show.
Alan Wake 2 is an ideal game to play in October. You’ll switch between playing as two different characters: one investigates the misty forests of the Pacific Northwest, and the other navigates a strange and eerie city filled with mysterious figures. Alan Wake 2 delivers the thrills of survival horror but keeps the gameplay approachable for newcomers, and you don’t need to have played the first Alan Wake game to enjoy it-though fans of the original or the recent Control will discover lots of fun hidden references. Alan Wake 2 features striking scenes and a story full of unexpected twists and turns that will create the perfect spooky atmosphere for the Halloween season.
Cocoon
Another nominee at the 2023 Game Awards is Cocoon, a game from Geometric Interactive. You might not be familiar with that studio, and that’s okay – Cocoon is their very first game! What’s interesting is that Geometric Interactive was started by two developers who previously worked at Playdead, the creators of popular indie games like Inside and Limbo. Cocoon is widely considered to be one of the best short puzzle games available – you can finish it in about 5 hours.
The core of Cocoon‘s gameplay revolves around collecting and using several small orbs. Playing as a bug-like character, you can carry these orbs and even leap inside them, which instantly takes you to a completely different world. You’ll travel between these worlds, utilizing the orbs’ abilities to advance, solve puzzles, and battle a handful of bosses. However, it’s not a fast-paced action game. Movement is controlled with the joystick, and you interact with things by pressing X – that’s the beautiful simplicity of Cocoon’s controls, and you’ll be surprised by how much depth it offers.
Goat Simulator 3
If you’re looking for something totally different, Goat Simulator 3 is the ideal funny sandbox game packed with exaggerated physics, hidden surprises, and pure silliness. As a fitting follow-up to the original 2014 Goat Simulator, this second game in the series takes the craziness even further, letting as many as four players team up to create chaos together online.
If you’ve just finished a scary game or movie,Goat Simulator 3 might be exactly what you need to relax. You can run into people, use your long tongue to grab objects, and play a bunch of different mini-games with your friends. Just keep in mind that the game is completely silly, so don’t get too competitive if someone beats you!
