Disney Dreamlight Valley has welcomed two new characters who fit right into the existing game world. But getting to know Cogsworth and Lumiere in the latest update takes some effort, even though all they ask is for you to be their guest.
Ever wondered how sparkling clean Belle and Beast’s castle was during your last visit (besides The Forgetting doing its thing)? Now we have the answer! The much-loved enchanted servants have officially joined Disney Dreamlight Valley.
I absolutely love having visitors in my Valley, but honestly, getting those characters to actually *come* isn’t always straightforward. So, I figured I’d share exactly how I do it. Here’s the breakdown of how to unlock them and get them to move in!
How to unlock Cogsworth and Lumiere
Open the Beauty and the Beast Realm & Unlock Belle and Beast
To begin the quests with Cogsworth and Lumiere, you first need to unlock the Beauty and the Beast Realm and finish all of its initial quests.
To continue, please follow our guide for unlocking Belle and The Beast, as these are required to unlock the following two characters.
The Haunting of the Beast’s Castle
To begin the first quest, read a letter you receive in your mailbox. It’s from Beast, who is worried about his friends and wants you to return to the Realm to see how they are doing.
Yes, that’s precisely what you need to do. Go up to the third floor of Dreamlight Castle and go into the Beauty and the Beast Realm.
After you enter, walk directly down the hallway and continue following the path until you spot Lumiere in the library. Talk to him, and he’ll request that you illuminate the area.
Craft Fireplace Fuel
To accomplish this, you must first light the Fireplace. Go through the secret passage located to the right of Lumiere, and you’ll notice a box leaning against the wall you entered from. Within the box, you’ll find three distinct ingredients.
Next, go to the Fireplace and place three ‘Canoli’ inside to create Fireplace Fuel. After you’ve done that, return to Lumiere and give him the items, and he will tell you that something strange is going on at the castle.
Catch the painting
There’s a painting flying around, and your task is to catch it. Fortunately, the painting is actually in the same room as you, so you can simply chase after it and grab it quickly.
After you’ve done that, return to the castle’s main hallway. To your left, you’ll find a large piano. As you approach it, you’ll notice spinning designs showing where the painting goes. Put the painting in place, and then collect your prize.
Once you’ve finished that, talk to Lumiere. He’ll tell you he suspects there’s a ghost haunting the castle. This is when you’ll be asked to make a decision. We decided to believe in ghosts, although your choice might lead to slightly different outcomes.
Visit the garden
After that, you’ll receive directions to the garden. Once you arrive, talk to Lumiere and start tidying up the area around the maze.
Your goal is to reach the center area quickly, because Cogsworth is waiting for you there. Once you arrive, talk to him and then find the other two characters. After that, there will be more dialogue with ghosts, and you’ll finish this quest.
A Growing Mystery
Find the Rose Seeds
To begin the next quest, talk to Cogsworth. He’ll need you to replant the roses. However, before you can do that, you must find the seeds.
The seeds are located in the Beast’s room. Return to the area where you first entered the realm. Before you reach that spot, you’ll find his room, situated near some lion statues.
On the right side of the room, inside a box, you can locate the four Rose Seeds. After finding them, return to the Garden and plant them right in the center of the maze.
Craft Rose Fertilizer
It’s strange, but the Roses aren’t growing as expected. Please talk to Cogsworth once more and create some Rose Fertilizer. You’ll need these ingredients:
- 8 Castle Softwood: Found in the maze
- 3 Rich Soil: Dig dirt in the Valley
- 3 Castle Stone: Found by breaking rocks in the maze
Go to the crafting table – you can find one in the garden and make Rose Fertilizer. Once you’ve done that, open your inventory and add the fertilizer to your watering can. After that, return to the center of the maze and use the watering can on the bushes. This will make roses grow.
Place the roses in vases
Finally, simply return to the piano room you first encountered at the beginning of the area and put three roses into the empty white vases around the room. Even though you have six roses total, you only need to use three.
You’ll find a key and another page will fall. Talk to both of them, and they’ll tell you that you still need to locate one final key. Once you have it, the quest will be complete.
So, during the conversation, I had to make another choice. I went with: “It’s definitely a ghost! Things are just too strange to explain otherwise.” It just felt right, you know? Everything was so weird, a ghost was the only explanation that made sense to me.
As we complete the quests, we’ll be updating this article, so refresh if you’re stuck!
