Ubisoft has introduced Vantage Studios, a new internal team designed to lead the future development of its major franchises – Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six. Essentially, Vantage Studios will be a central creative hub for these popular game series.
This is the name of the new company Ubisoft and Tencent revealed earlier in the year. It is being managed by Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot’s son, Charlie Guillemot, and Christophe Derennes. Charlie Guillemot understands people are questioning whether he was hired because of his family connection, but he says he’s simply focused on doing his job. He wants to get straight to work.
So, I heard that Vantage Studios is taking the lead on developing and growing these game brands. Basically, they’re building on everything Ubisoft already knows and has done, and they’ll be sharing tech and resources. The cool part is, it sounds like the developers will have way more control over their games now, which is awesome!
The company also explained that Vantage Studios represents Ubisoft’s initial move in its larger plan to evolve. They are also working on creating more creative teams and are focused on unifying their brands and franchises by establishing a consistent style and shared development skills.
So, what does Vantage Studios do?
Vantage Studios, and any similar teams formed in the future – which we’re calling “creative houses” – are tasked with helping to build closer and more meaningful relationships between our developers and players.
According to the developer, this efficient method gives developers more independence and speeds up the process of collecting and using player feedback, all while still providing access to Ubisoft’s knowledge, support, resources, and technology.
Vantage Studios brings together teams dedicated to the Rainbow Six, Assassin’s Creed, and Far Cry game series. These teams are located in Montréal, Quebec, Sherbrooke, Saguenay, Barcelona, and Sofia.
Finally, Ubisoft said people should “keep your eyes peeled for future announcements.”
How Ubisoft got here
Ubisoft was struggling financially and responded by cutting costs. This included laying off employees, closing some studios, and cancelling the game XDefiant. Some people criticized the company’s management, calling it poor. Before Tencent made an offer, reports surfaced that companies like EA (which is now being acquired itself) and Microsoft were considering buying parts or all of Ubisoft.
In March 2025, Ubisoft revealed a new “dedicated subsidiary” concentrating on the Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six franchises. Tencent is investing over $1 billion to become a stakeholder. Ubisoft clarified that other areas of its business – including The Division and Ghost Recon, as well as the creation of new game ideas – will continue to operate separately and at the same time.
After carefully considering various strategic options, Ubisoft concluded a competitive process with Tencent being selected as the winner.
