Full Frankenstein Trailer Is Epic And Visual, But Something Is Missing

Many of Guillermo del Toro’s most celebrated films include fantastical or supernatural themes, and are known for their vibrant visuals and imaginative creatures. This is certainly true of The Shape of Water, which received the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2018. He’s now working on a movie based on Mary Shelley’s classic novel, Frankenstein. You can watch the complete trailer here, and see Jacob Elordi’s take on The Creature – or at least, a glimpse of it.

Viewers already got a glimpse of Frankenstein with a short teaser, but the trailer you see above is the complete first look. Guillermo del Toro described Elordi’s monster as beautiful, though it’s hard to understand why from this footage. We do see the creature being assembled and displaying impressive power, but his complete design remains a mystery. Let’s analyze what this trailer suggests for the upcoming horror film, which will be available to Netflix subscribers on home video in November.

The trailer begins with voiceover from Jacob Elordi’s Creature. Though we haven’t yet seen the Creature’s complete appearance, the narration helps us understand his perspective. As we listen to his voice, the trailer shows how Oscar Isaac’s Victor Frankenstein assembled him. We see a room filled with corpses, and watch as Frankenstein chooses an eyeball and attaches it to the being he’s creating.
