While Silent Hill f successfully refreshed the series with its setting in 1960s Japan and focus on action-packed combat, Konami states that this game won’t serve as a model for what’s coming next in the franchise.
While Silent Hill f has been well-received by both critics and fans, it’s also caused some disagreement among longtime players. Many feel the game’s increased emphasis on action differs from the series’ established style of slow-paced, psychological horror.
Silent Hill f moved away from the series’ typical American settings, opting for the countryside of Ebisugaoka, which significantly altered the game’s overall tone.
Series producer Motoi Okamoto explains that these changes were made on purpose to revitalize Silent Hill. However, he’s emphasized that not every future installment will follow this same path.
Silent Hill f won’t be the blueprint for future SH games
During an interview with IGN Japan at Tokyo Game Show 2025, Okamoto directly responded to the worry, as translated by Automaton.
Naturally, not every future Silent Hill game will be just like Silent Hill f. Each installment will offer a unique experience. We’re committed to trying new things and being bold with both how the games play and the stories they tell, so we hope you’ll anticipate the next Silent Hill with excitement,” he explained.

Okamoto explained that Silent Hill f is only one possible direction for the series. “Not every future Silent Hill game will play like f; instead, our goal is to consistently deliver challenging but enjoyable experiences, with each game offering a unique style of gameplay,” he stated.
Though the way the game is played might evolve, he stressed that one thing will always stay the same: “The story’s quality is the most crucial element. We strongly feel that a deep, psychological narrative is at the heart of what makes Silent Hill special, and we’ll keep prioritizing this in future projects, delivering it with confidence.”
Considering Silent Hill f is currently selling better and receiving more positive feedback than the remake of Silent Hill 2, Okamoto’s statements hint that Konami aims to find a middle ground – evolving the series while still maintaining the signature psychological depth that makes it special.
