World-renowned chess player Magnus Carlsen and his wife, Ella, recently had a baby. Many in the chess community believe their child will be an exceptionally talented player from a young age – a true prodigy.
On September 30th, Ella shared an Instagram story featuring Team Liquid’s Magnus sleeping beside his newborn baby, with the date 27.09.2025 visible.
Although rumors had circulated online, this was the first time the couple officially announced their baby’s arrival. While the baby’s gender is still a secret, Ella shared a photo with a blue heart placed over the baby’s face. Traditionally, blue is often used to symbolize a baby boy.
The news about Magnus Carlsen‘s new baby quickly went viral, with fans offering their congratulations to the couple and playfully suggesting that this child might become a chess prodigy just like their father.

On Chess.com and Magnus Carlsen’s X (formerly Twitter) accounts, people repeatedly made playful comments about the baby, jokingly comparing their potential skills to those of Broly from Dragon Ball. They acted as if the baby had incredible, hidden abilities, much like the character Broly.

People often called the baby a future “GOAT,” similar to how they view the father as the greatest chess player ever.
