A California family and firefighters say their dog is a hero after alerting them to a house fire that broke out overnight. The dog’s quick actions are believed to have saved everyone’s lives.
Around 4:30 AM on April 16th, a fire started in a family’s garage while they were all sleeping. Luckily, their dog, Fillmore – a black and white German shorthaired pointer – began barking constantly, which his owners say he never normally does.
Initially, Tom Dalis, his wife, and his 90-year-old mother-in-law attempted to calm him, thinking there wasn’t a real problem. However, Fillmore wouldn’t be quiet.
The homeowners were awakened by a feeling that something wasn’t right and went outside to check. They first thought a neighbor’s house was on fire, but quickly realized the flames were coming from their own garage.

The situation quickly escalated, with the fire threatening to spread to the rest of the house.
The family quickly grabbed garden hoses, trying to control the fire until help arrived. Firefighters soon put out the blaze, saving the property from being completely destroyed.

Although the garage and cars were completely ruined, thankfully the rest of the house was spared, and everyone inside was safe.
Investigators think an electrical problem likely started the fire, but they are still working to determine the precise cause.
According to the homeowners, Fillmore’s relentless barking made all the difference.
Dalis explained that the dog rarely barks, and that’s why they were able to wake up and respond quickly to whatever happened.
Firefighters also commended the dog’s fast actions, saying the situation could have been much more serious without its early alert.
The Orange County Fire Authority praised a dog on Instagram, sharing videos of firefighters working to put out a fire and saying the dog deserved an award.

Noticing something wasn’t right, the homeowners glanced out the window and saw a light flickering. They initially worried a nearby house was on fire, but upon investigation, they found their own garage was the one ablaze.
Following his brave act, Fillmore received lots of treats and quickly became an online sensation. The family is simply thankful they took his warning seriously.
