Marvel Studios and the directors of the Avengers movies have a special treat for fans of Avengers: Endgame. The popular 2019 film will be back in theaters with something extra for viewers – it won’t just be a simple re-release!
Avengers: Endgame to return to theaters ahead of Avengers: Doomsday
Marvel is bringing Avengers: Endgame back to cinemas on September 25th, and this time it will include extra, never-before-seen scenes. The movie, which already runs for three hours, will now be even longer!
Joe and Anthony Russo revealed that an updated version of their film will be re-released in theaters during an event at CinemaCon on Thursday. This comes before the premiere of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ on December 18th. Both movies will be shown in a new format called Infinity Vision, which Disney says offers the highest quality and most immersive movie experience in large theaters.
The Infinity Vision certification ensures high quality for large format screens in cinemas. Currently, it applies to over 75 locations in the US and 300 worldwide. To earn the certification, theaters must meet strict technical requirements, including using very large screens, laser projection for a bright and clear picture, and advanced sound systems for a truly immersive experience.
Andrew Cripps, who leads theatrical distribution at Disney Studios, explained the new initiative. He stated (according to Variety) that Disney is known for its incredibly high production standards, carefully crafting every detail to fully immerse audiences in their films. The new ‘Infinity Vision’ certification builds on this commitment by also ensuring theaters deliver a top-quality experience, representing a collaboration between Disney and cinema owners.
The new Avengers movie, titled Doomsday, is being released on the same day as Warner Bros.’ Dune: Part Three. Dune: Part Three was filmed using IMAX cameras and will be shown in IMAX theaters exclusively for the first three weeks of its release. At CinemaCon, the Russo Brothers debuted the official Doomsday trailer, and stars Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans presented it twice to the audience.
