1990 FC/NES version of Ishin no Arashi is coming to Switch 2 & PS5 via Console Archives on April 16

Hamster will release the classic game Ishin no Arashi (Storm of Restoration) on Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5 on April 16th as part of their Console Archives series. The game is a port of the original version, which first launched on the Family Computer (NES) in 1990.

Ishin no Arashi is the first game in Koei’s ‘Rekoeition’ series, blending strategy and role-playing elements. Set during Japan’s Bakumatsu period, the game allows players to step into the shoes of famous historical figures like Sakamoto Ryoma or Saigo Takamori. As these figures, players must convince or battle other lords to rally to their cause and unite Japan before a foreign invasion occurs.

Koei Tecmo initially released Ishin no Arashi on PC via Steam in 2017, but this version was based on the original 1988 release for PC98. The game was later directly remade for both PlayStation and Sega Saturn in 1997.

Below, you’ll find the official trailer, details, and screenshots for the new version of Ishin no Arashi, now available for FC/NES.

1867: The fall of the Edo Shogunate. In the dawning of a new era, heroes rise.

Released in 1990 for an 8-bit console, “Ishin no Arashi” lets you play as a patriot during Japan’s Bakumatsu period. This historical game challenges you to convince powerful lords and figures to join your cause, shaping the nation’s future. Instead of just fighting, you’ll use debate and persuasion to succeed. Navigate a turbulent time of political change and clash with opposing viewpoints to survive the fall of the shogunate!

This game was first launched only in Japan. Although the menus and instructions can be viewed in English, the actual game itself is entirely in Japanese.
