Disney+ has a fantastic science fiction show that’s so well-made, many fans actually don’t want it to have another season. Usually, people love a great show and wish it would go on. It’s common to feel a series ended too soon. But this show is an exception – its fans believe it’s perfect as is and don’t want anything to ruin it by continuing the story.
The same holds true for the Marvel series, Loki. The show centers around Tom Hiddleston’s character, Loki – brother of the god Thor and a former villain in the first Avengers film. It also features a different version of Loki, and it began three years after the original Loki seemingly died in Avengers: Infinity War. Considering all of this, the show Loki shouldn’t have been successful.
Despite its success, Loki only lasted two seasons, and fans seem content with that. The show was a quick hit, earning an 87% approval rating from both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Many consider it one of the best shows in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – some even argue it’s the very best – and it’s clearly a fan favorite. You’d expect a show this popular to have a longer run, but fans are surprisingly satisfied with the two seasons they got.
Loki’s Ending Is So Perfect, Season 3 Is Unnecessary
Many fans believe a third season of Loki isn’t necessary because the current ending is exceptionally well-done. The conclusion of season 2 provided satisfying resolutions for all the characters, with Loki successfully saving the multiverse and the timeline. He ultimately achieved a meaningful and important position within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the ending felt complete and earned.
The conclusion of Loki felt satisfying and well-deserved. Throughout the series, everything seemed to be leading to Loki embracing his destiny as the god of stories, even with the challenges caused by off-screen issues. Loki delivered a complete narrative arc, and the second season felt like a natural and fitting culmination of everything the show had built towards.
Given how perfectly Loki concludes, continuing the series wouldn’t be a good idea. It would likely ruin the meaningful ending we got. A third season would have to reverse something from the finale, either by punishing characters who earned happy endings or by disrupting the hard-won peace that Loki, Sylvie, and Mobius created. Since neither of those outcomes would be satisfying, most fans are happy with the show as it is.
Loki’s Story Is Already Set To Continue In The Broader MCU
Fans are also hesitant about continuing the Loki series because of what’s planned for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Tom Hiddleston is scheduled to return as Loki in Avengers: Doomsday, set to release on December 18, 2026. While his specific role isn’t known yet, the film’s likely focus on the multiverse and the introduction of Doctor Doom suggests Loki, as a god connected to stories and fate, will play a significant part.
Fans of the Loki series weren’t keen on it continuing anyway, and the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie makes another season even less necessary. The movie will likely explain what Loki has been doing as the god of stories, which was the main appeal of continuing the Loki show in the first place.
Because of the events in Avengers: Endgame, we now know there’s a reason to continue Loki’s story with a new project. However, this means a potential Season 3 of Loki would likely focus only on Sylvie and Mobius, as their storylines felt so complete and well-resolved in the previous season. Many fans wouldn’t be interested in seeing those stories revisited in a third season of Loki.
