Maria Bello has joined the upcoming Netflix drama series “The Waterfront,” EbMaster has learned.
The eight-episode series created by Kevin Williamson, initially given a go-ahead by Netflix in May, has just added Bello as its second confirmed actor, with Holt McCallany already on board.
Drawing inspiration from real-life occurrences, I found myself captivated by “The Waterfront,” a gripping tale that delves deep into the troubled Buckley clan. As they strive desperately to maintain their eroding North Carolina fishing dynasty, they’re compelled to employ increasingly risky strategies just to stay afloat.
Bell stars as Mae Buckley, a character portrayed as a multifaceted woman who is married to Harlan (McCallany) and mother of their two children. With her husband having stepped away from the family business, along with their son, she has been managing the fishery in somewhat dubious ways, doing so out of necessity to keep the family afloat.
Bello is set to make her second appearance on Netflix’s TV platform. Previously, she was featured in the successful series “Beef,” which garnered her an Emmy nomination. Besides this, she has also acted in shows like “NCIS” and “Goliath.” However, Bello is primarily recognized for her work in films, where she has played leading roles in movies such as “A History of Violence,” “The Cooler,” “Thank You for Smoking,” “Prisoners,” and “Coyote Ugly.”
She is repped by Independent Artist Group and Agence Adequat.
In this scenario, Williamson serves as the author of “The Waterfront,” collaborating with Ben Fast on executive production duties, all under their production company, Outerbanks Entertainment. The studio responsible for this project is Universal Television, and Outerbanks Entertainment currently has an overall deal with them.
