Warhorse Studios, a Czech game developer, gained a large and dedicated fanbase with their first game, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, which launched in 2018. They continued to refine their role-playing game style with a follow-up title released in 2025.
The team hasn’t shared any updates about their next project, sparking curiosity about what they’re working on. However, a recent rumor hints they might be developing something that Lord of the Rings fans will love.
An Open-World Middle-Earth?

Richard Chojnowski, a well-known figure in the Polish gaming industry, says that Warhorse Studios is working on a game based on the world of J.R.R. Tolkien.
Chojnowski shared on the Tolkien Polska podcast that he’d been hearing rumors for a few months, and they’ve been getting stronger lately. He mentioned receiving this information from multiple sources.
The upcoming game is a large-scale, open-world RPG with a budget estimated around $100 million, showing the Czech development team is aiming high. Funding will come in part from the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), which has been actively investing more in gaming and esports.
Details are still limited, but it hasn’t been long since people started talking about a new Lord of the Rings action game played from a third-person perspective. Many now think these recent reports are actually about the same game.
The game is said to be a large, open-world role-playing game, and its $100 million budget suggests the Czech development team is aiming high with a very ambitious project.
Warhorse Studios hasn’t officially responded to the rumors, leaving fans to wonder what’s true. This silence is common in the gaming community, as false claims are usually proven wrong pretty quickly, so any lack of comment often just increases speculation.

We’re eagerly awaiting an official announcement, but it’s exciting to think about what a world inspired by Tolkien could look like with this studio at the helm! I recently attended a preview event for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and was impressed by the developers’ dedication to creating detailed and immersive RPGs – the game boasts a script of over 2.2 million words, which speaks for itself!
I’m hoping the next game is as groundbreaking as Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, and not like Lord of the Rings: Gollum, which many players would rather not remember. The developers have a strong track record, so they’re capable of creating something amazing! We’ll just have to be patient and see what they come up with.
