The final role for an iconic Power Rangers star has offered its first official look.
First images have been released of a new action movie featuring Jason David Frank, best known as Tommy Oliver from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The film’s release date has also been announced. Tragically, Frank passed away in November 2022.
Well Go USA Entertainment has shared the first images from Legend of the White Dragon, the last movie Jason David Frank filmed before his passing. The photos show Frank wearing a white and gold suit similar to those worn in Power Rangers. One image features him standing with two other people in red and blue armor. You can see the images below.
Along with some new promotional images, a release date for the movie has been set. Legend of the White Dragon will premiere in select cinemas on August 28th – National Power Rangers Day. This date is especially fitting, as it celebrates the work of Frank, who was a major inspiration for the film.
What To Expect From Legend Of The White Dragon
In Legend of the White Dragon, Frank plays Erik Reed, a superhero who went into hiding after a traumatic event. Now he’s back as the White Dragon, determined to restore his reputation and keep his family safe from the evil Dragon Prime, played by Aaron Schoenke. The film was made possible by fans through a successful Kickstarter campaign.
In addition to Frank, the movie also features other actors known from the Power Rangers series, including Jason Faunt (Power Rangers Time Force), Cerina Vincent (Power Rangers Lost Galaxy), and Ciara Hanna (Power Rangers Megaforce). The filmmakers aimed to create a Power Rangers movie geared towards adults, keeping the spirit of the original show but with more mature themes.
Filmed in mid-2021, this movie was initially planned for release in 2023. However, its release has been delayed multiple times over the years. It now appears to have a confirmed distributor, Well Go USA Entertainment, and early images suggest it’s on track to be released in theaters this year.
How Legend Of The White Dragon Will Honor Jason David Frank’s Power Rangers Legacy
Legend of the White Dragon is giving fans a glimpse of how the film will pay tribute to Frank’s iconic role as one of the most beloved Power Rangers characters. We’ve also seen that Erik will be wearing gray and green armor in the movie, a clear nod to Frank’s original introduction as Tommy, the Green Ranger.
The White Dragon costume is similar to the White Ranger outfit Tommy wore in later seasons of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The movie will also feature the kind of action fans expect from the series, and gives actor Frank a prominent role that honors his past work. As the story progresses, viewers can anticipate even more nods to the franchise’s history.
Now that Legend of the White Dragon has a set date for a limited release in theaters, it looks like the film will both pay tribute to its lead actor and deliver the kind of action fans expect from Power Rangers. The release date itself feels perfectly timed, suggesting the movie is finally ready to premiere.
