Following the huge popularity of The Last of Us and The Last of Us Part II, fans are eagerly anticipating a third game. While Naughty Dog hasn’t officially announced The Last of Us Part III, co-creator Neil Druckmann has suggested it’s likely in development.

Neil Druckmann recently shared some interesting finds on Instagram: early character sketches from 2003 that he discovered while cleaning his garage. These sketches were for characters who later appeared in the original game, and looking back at them prompted Druckmann to reflect on the game’s development. He hinted that there’s more story content on the way.

Neil Druckmann’s recent post has sparked excitement among fans hoping for The Last of Us Part III, even though it wasn’t a formal announcement. The comments section quickly filled with enthusiastic reactions, with many interpreting his message as a strong hint towards a third game. Some fans are even hoping for a fourth installment, with one writing they’d buy The Last of Us Part 3 and Part 4 immediately.

The HBO Series Is Likely to End With Season 3

HBO is making a third season of The Last of Us TV show, but Neil Druckmann’s recent comments about “a few stops that remain” probably aren’t about that. Druckmann co-created the show with Craig Mazin and was heavily involved in season two, but he’s now left the series, leaving Mazin as the only showrunner. Since Druckmann isn’t working on the TV show anymore, he’s likely teasing future content related to the original video games.

The first Last of Us game came out in 2013, and The Last of Us Part II followed in 2020. Developing the sequel cost around $220 million, making it one of the most expensive video games ever made. Considering how popular both previous games remain, another installment, The Last of Us Part III, seems very likely.
