Survey shows Japanese kids want to be streamers when they grow up, not doctors

It’s wild to think about what kids dream of being these days! Apparently, a recent survey from 2026 shows that in Japan, most kids don’t want to be athletes or actors – they want to be streamers! It’s amazing how much things have changed, and it’s so cool to see them aiming for something totally different.

Every year, Gakken, a Japanese company that creates educational materials, surveys young people about the jobs they hope to have in the future.

Researchers surveyed 600 students at each school level – elementary, middle, and high – and discovered that many younger children identified ‘online streamer’ as a popular career choice.

A recent poll by Gakken found that ‘streamer’ was the most popular career choice for elementary school students, with 113 students – both boys and girls – selecting it.

Interestingly, when young boys were asked about their dream jobs, ‘streamer’ was their top pick. For girls, however, it ranked much lower at eighth place, with ‘pastry chef’ being their most desired career.
