Looking back, it was inevitable they’d open with “Live from London, it’s Saturday night!” – there wasn’t much else they could do. Still, I was surprised when I heard it. The first episode of SNL U.K. premiered live from London on March 21st, and it seems even this version couldn’t avoid a Trump-themed cold open. The show features Prime Minister Keir Starmer (George Fouracres) and Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy (Hammed Animashaun) grappling with how to distance themselves from Trump’s potential to start World War III, all while trying to maintain the “special relationship” – or as their Gen Z advisor (Jack Shep) puts it, a “special situationship.” Their solution? Voice memos. The sketch revolves around episodes of Friends, but Starmer believes he made his point. You can watch the full episode when SNL U.K. becomes available on Peacock on Sunday.
