After the sad news of Nicholas Brendon’s death, his former colleagues Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz, who starred with him on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, have shared tributes to remember him.
Brendon played Xander Harris, a close friend of the main character Buffy Summers (played by Sarah Michelle Gellar) and often made fun of the vampire Angel (David Boreanaz). He was a regular cast member throughout all seven seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Other key actors in the series included Alyson Hannigan, Charisma Carpenter, Anthony Stewart Head, James Marsters, Emma Caulfield, and the late Michelle Trachtenberg.
Sarah Michelle Gellar shared a touching message on Instagram alongside an old photo of her with Nicky Brendon. She quoted herself, reflecting on what it’s like to be overlooked: “It’s incredibly difficult to be the one who isn’t chosen, to be so close to success but never achieve it. But I understand, and I see things others don’t because I’m not the center of attention.” She then addressed Brendon directly, saying she knew he was at peace and imagining him relaxing in a comfortable chair in heaven.
Along with his post about Gellar, Boreanaz shared a heartwarming photo of himself and Brendon, accompanying it with a touching tribute.
There are people you work with
and then there are people you share time with
Nick was the latter
Some moments stay small on paper
a laugh between takes
a look that says we got this
the quiet understanding of showing up
and doing the work together
But those are the things that last
He carried something real
not perfect
not polished
just real
And in this business
that matters more than most things
We don’t always get to choose
how long someone stays in the story
only that they were here
And he was …Rest easy Brother
Some people leave a mark without trying
I was really saddened to hear about the passing of Brendon, just 54 years old. It seems he died peacefully in his sleep, though he’d been dealing with some serious health issues for a while – a previous heart attack, a congenital heart condition, and even a spinal disorder. While it’s tragic, his family is asking us to remember him for the incredible work he did, and honestly, that’s a beautiful way to look at it. He left behind a real creative legacy, and that’s what should be celebrated.
The family stated that despite past difficulties, Nicholas was receiving treatment and felt hopeful about the future when he passed away. They have asked for privacy as they mourn his loss and remember a man who lived life with passion, creativity, and kindness. They are grateful for the outpouring of love and support.
Brendon became popular with viewers thanks to his work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and he’ll be fondly remembered through the show and by those who knew him.
