The world of The Mandalorian has been central to Star Wars storytelling for over six years. Starting with the show’s premiere in 2019 and continuing through upcoming films like The Mandalorian & Grogu, this connected series of Disney+ shows and movies has given Lucasfilm its most consistent and engaging storyline since the original Skywalker Saga.
Okay, so things seemed to be really taking off with all the interconnected shows in the ‘MandoVerse,’ but a new report suggests that might be slowing down. Industry insider Daniel Richtman is saying Lucasfilm could pull the plug on the whole thing if it doesn’t see the results it’s hoping for. He shared this on his Patreon page, and it’s definitely got fans talking.
“Right now, no other shows in the Mandoverse are planned until they see how Ahsoka performs.”
Recently, plans were underway for a major film overseen by Dave Filoni, a co-creator of The Mandalorian. However, those plans changed when The Mandalorian & Grogu was announced as a full-fledged theatrical movie. This new film essentially covers the story that a Filoni-directed movie would have told. If recent reports are accurate, the future of the Star Wars universe beyond season two of Ahsoka doesn’t look very bright.
As a huge fan, I’m really excited about Ahsoka because it feels like what happens in the show will shape everything that happens in the future with The Mandalorian and all the related shows – the whole ‘Mandoverse,’ as some call it! It’s a lot of pressure, honestly, and it’s frustrating that we still don’t have a confirmed release date for Season 2. I’m hoping we hear something soon!
Based on how long it took to make the first season of Ahsoka – filming from May to October 2022 and premiering in August 2023, about 10 months later – we can estimate that Season 2 will likely premiere in late summer or early fall of 2026. This timing would allow The Mandalorian & Grogu movie, which comes out in theaters on May 22nd, to finish its run in cinemas before new Star Wars episodes start streaming.
Will Ahsoka Season 2 Perform Well?

There’s a lot of reason to be hopeful that Season 2 of Ahsoka will be a hit. The first season ended with several exciting loose ends – Thrawn’s escape, Ezra’s return, and Ahsoka and Sabine’s predicament – which will definitely encourage viewers who enjoyed Season 1 to tune back in.
As a huge Star Wars fan, I have to say Ahsoka Tano is right up there with the most popular characters. I first fell for her way back in The Clone Wars when it started in 2008, and honestly, the love for her has just kept growing. Rosario Dawson really nailed the live-action version, and I’m excited to see Season 2 continue to explore a character so many of us have been invested in for years.
The show’s release timing is also beneficial. By the time Season 2 comes out, The Mandalorian & Grogu movie will probably be in theaters already. This avoids competition and allows the two projects to actually boost each other’s success. If the movie does well, that positive feeling will likely extend to Ahsoka, and fans will naturally expect the show to be equally good.
While nothing is certain, Ahsoka has the potential to be a big success on Disney+. If the show’s second season capitalizes on its strengths, it could ensure the continuation of the Mandoverse on the streaming platform.
Potential Shows That Could Follow Ahsoka if the Mandoverse Continues
Whether or not we get a second season of Skeleton Crew depends on how well Ahsoka does and if the interconnected stories of The Mandalorian universe continue to be popular. The show’s creators, Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, already have a detailed plan for Season 2, including a time jump to address the actors getting older. However, Skeleton Crew’s initial viewership was lower than that of The Acolyte, which Lucasfilm recently canceled after just one season. It remains to be seen if Lucasfilm will give Skeleton Crew another opportunity.
Similar to the scrapped adventures of Boba Fett, Rangers of the New Republic is another project that never came to fruition in the Star Wars universe. Initially planned as a complete series, it was canceled following Gina Carano’s exit. Kathleen Kennedy, formerly the president of Lucasfilm, stated that the show’s concepts were incorporated into The Mandalorian. Despite this, a series focusing on law enforcement within the New Republic still feels like a good idea, and elements introduced through characters like Carson Teva are still considered official Star Wars story material.
If the interconnected universe of Star Wars shows continues to grow, there are definitely stories within it worth exploring further. It also raises the question of what a large-scale movie, directed by Dave Filoni and bringing together characters from the Disney+ shows, could be like – assuming those shows remain successful.
