Saros trailer
The debut trailer for the game Saros was revealed at February’s State of Play – you can watch it below! It gives a good look at the game’s world, atmosphere, and what the story is about. We’re really impressed with how it looks.
Saros platforms
Saros is initially launching on PlayStation 5, and while a PC version hasn’t been announced, it’s likely coming later. Housemarque’s previous game, Returnal, received a PC release two years after its PS5 debut, and Sony is now more open to releasing games on multiple platforms, suggesting Saros will probably be available on PC eventually.
Will Saros be PS5 Pro Enhanced?
I was so excited to hear during the State of Play that Saros is getting the PS5 Pro treatment! They didn’t reveal exactly *how* it will be enhanced yet, but Housemarque is known for making gorgeous games. Remember how stunning Returnal was when it first came out? If that’s anything to go by, I’m expecting some seriously amazing monster designs and a ton of cool particle effects when Saros finally arrives. I can’t wait!
Saros story, setting, and characters
Saros takes place on the distant planet Carcosa, where you play as Arjun Devraj, a skilled enforcer investigating a mysterious, isolated colony. A disturbing eclipse hangs over the planet as Arjun searches for answers. The game’s developer, Housemarque, promises a chilling story and terrifying creatures, as shown in the preview trailer.
The game will immerse players with realistic voice-overs, cinematic scenes, audio recordings, and interactions with various characters. As you explore the planet, you’ll discover Soltari Holograms that piece together the story of what happened on Carcosa. Collecting these holograms will fully reveal the planet’s history. The developers also promise more dreamlike and enigmatic story segments, though they aren’t ready to share specifics about those just yet.
A familiar face
You’re seeing correctly – that’s actor Rahul Kohli both voicing and appearing as the character Devraj! According to the game developers at Housemarque, Kohli gives a very realistic performance in Saros. In the trailer, Devraj says, “Every time the sun dies, madness reigns, then everything begins again. But after every death, I *always* come back stronger.”
Saros gameplay
Saros appears to be a fast-paced game where attacking is rewarded. You play as Arjun, who uses a high-tech suit to gain powerful abilities. Before each playthrough, you customize your gear by choosing from a variety of human and alien weapons. During a recent gameplay showcase, Arjun was shown using the Soltari Phosphorous Shotgun, a weapon capable of quickly destroying enemies.
Unlike Returnal, Saros allows Arjun to run directly into danger with the help of the Soltari Shield. Holding down the R1 button lets him absorb enemy attacks, converting that energy into power for his Carcosan weapons. It’s like turning your enemy’s strength against them. However, using these powerful weapons corrupts Arjun, transforming his right arm and creating a risk alongside the reward. It’s a trade-off, but one that gives him a significant advantage in battle.
If Arjun is defeated in battle, he won’t stay down for long. He’s discovered a way to harness a special energy to revive after his first death, and he’ll return even stronger. Plus, with each subsequent attempt, he’ll be able to improve his combat suit and skills.
With each death in Saros, the world will change, but you’ll also have the chance to permanently improve your gear. You can choose from a growing selection of weapons and suit upgrades, letting you return stronger and better equipped to tackle the challenges of Carcosa, according to Housemarque.
