is returning sooner than expected, but with a twist.
IDW Publishing announced that The Rocketeer is returning in a new comic book series! Titled The Rocketeer: Infiltrator, it will be available on July 8th and features the work of creators Gabriel Hardman (known for Batman and Green Arrow) and Dean Kotz (The Savage Sword of Conan). The story is set during World War II, where Allied planes are being destroyed by what some believe is a secret Nazi weapon. Cliff Secord, a.k.a. The Rocketeer, and actress Betty Paige will go undercover to investigate, promising a thrilling adventure for fans of the classic franchise.
What’s Been Said About The Rocketeer: Infiltrator! So Far?
Hardman expressed his excitement about working on the new comic, recalling how he first discovered the character and Stevens’ beautiful artwork as a teenager when he found THE ROCKETEER ADVENTURE MAGAZINE from Comico at a local comic shop. He explained that it instantly connected with his passion for the adventure stories of the 1930s and 40s, making this project a natural fit for him.
I’m so hyped about the new direction this is taking! Apparently, Cliff and Betty are getting involved in some serious wartime espionage – think uncovering a Nazi superweapon! They’re using Betty’s acting as a cover, which is brilliant, even if they’re total newbies to the spy world. To help them out, there’s this incredibly charming MI6 agent… who, unfortunately for Cliff, seems to have a thing for Betty! Honestly, I’m thrilled to be working with Dean Kotz on this series. I’ve been a huge fan of his art for ages, and this story just feels perfect for his style and for us to create together.
Kotz expressed his enthusiasm about joining the creative team for the next Rocketeer comic book. He’s thrilled to be working with Gabriel on THE ROCKETEER: INFILTRATOR!, praising Gabriel’s skill in telling classic pulp stories. The new story is a thrilling spy adventure with plenty of exciting visuals. It will show Cliff Secord navigating the world of international espionage when he’s not flying as the Rocketeer, and Betty working undercover on a movie set while being pursued by a secret agent. Kotz believes the comic perfectly captures the spirit of classic pulp adventures.
The Rocketeer: Infiltrator! arrives in comic shops on July 8.
