Will Trent Season 4’s “Haunting” Ulster Connection “Serves As A Springboard” For Remaining Episodes

Be warned, this article contains spoilers for the latest episode of Will Trent! The newest development in season 4, episode 11, dramatically alters the course of the show.

I’m really intrigued by what Ramón Rodríguez has hinted about season 4! He says the new connection to Ulster is going to be a major turning point, setting up everything that happens later in the season. In episode 11, Will Trent actually went to Puerto Rico because a man with the same name as his uncle, Antonio, was killed in a way that reminded him of the Ulster killer’s methods. It’s definitely a haunting development and I can’t wait to see where it goes!

Okay, so I just finished the latest episode, and things got intense. I was following Will when he got to Antonio’s place, only to find he’d completely disappeared – no one knew where he was. Then, get this, Adelaide – Ulster’s daughter, who’s been laying low – ambushed Will while pretending to be an FBI agent! She totally played him, leaving him for dead. Thankfully, Faith and Ormewood showed up just in time to save him, but now Antonio’s fate is a total cliffhanger. Seriously, where is Antonio? It’s a mystery they’re clearly going to drag out through season four, and I’m already hooked!

In a recent interview with TVLine, Ramón Rodríguez discussed how the character of Ulysses ‘Ulster’ continues to affect Will Trent, even after his death in season 4. While Adelaide holds Will responsible for much of her past suffering, Will himself is still grieving the loss of his mother. The kidnapping of Antonio is expected to deeply impact Will, considering how close they’ve become since first meeting.

Will has been constantly tormented, even after Ulster’s death, as Ulster continues to haunt him. A fascinating part of the story is seeing how far Ulster’s influence extends – through his followers and family. We learn he has a daughter whose only purpose is to make Will suffer, driven by her own painful experiences.

As a critic, I found the film really digs into this relentless sense of being haunted. Our protagonist can’t shake this figure from his past, and the source of his trauma—starting with his mother and connected to this character, Ulster—just keeps resurfacing. When he discovers Adelaide isn’t who she seems—she’s been posing as an FBI agent—it hits him on a profoundly personal level. Then, Ulster takes things even further by kidnapping his uncle. It’s a genuinely devastating emotional blow, and it’s clear Ulster’s influence continues to poison Will’s life and family in incredibly dark ways.

He pointed out that close family relationships are rare among the characters in Will Trent, which is why Antonio’s bond is so important. This also explains why he was willing to trust Adelaide, even though he initially questioned her intentions. Rodríguez also confirmed that the events of episode 11 will have lasting consequences throughout the rest of season 4, and these consequences will unfold in the coming weeks.

Family is incredibly important to Will, as he doesn’t have many relatives. This episode really shows how dedicated he is to protecting the family he does have. When he learns the first victim is Antonio Morales, he immediately flies to Puerto Rico – it’s a very impulsive decision that demonstrates his commitment.

Even when Adelaide mentions Lucy – a name he never said himself – Will immediately senses something isn’t right. But she’s also his only hope of finding his uncle. Because Will doesn’t have many close family connections, he’s willing to do anything to connect with her and maintain that feeling of family. That desire is a major driving force for him.

From now on, Will will be actively searching for both his uncle and Adelaide, who is responsible for all the trouble. This episode sets the stage for the rest of the season, and its events will have a lasting impact on everything that happens next. These kinds of episodes – the ones that launch the story forward – are always the most engaging.

Season 4 has brought big changes for Will, including the death of Ulster and Angie’s marriage to Seth. Now, with Adelaide’s arrival, things get even more complicated. She’s determined to get revenge on Will and will stop at nothing to do it, even if that means hurting his friend, Antonio.

The show has dealt with ongoing storylines before, but Will seems fixated on Antonio, even with future events unfolding. A new danger, Adelaide, has emerged and poses a lasting threat – potentially leading to another family member’s death due to Ulster’s schemes. This puts everyone Will cares about directly in harm’s way.

As the season nears its end with just seven episodes left, Will Trent seems set to reveal why Adelaide is after Will, and whether Antonio is truly still alive. The main character will likely be forced to make tough choices and could experience some painful losses before the season concludes.

New episodes of Will Trent air Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
