TikToker goes viral after saving Oscars red carpet to use it in her home

A woman on TikTok became famous for rescuing a piece of the Oscars red carpet – and using it as flooring in her apartment! It’s true!

There are many awards shows celebrating films, but the Oscars are the most anticipated. It’s the industry’s biggest night, and winning an Oscar is a career-defining achievement.

The red carpet – the one actors and directors walk on before the awards show – is a significant part of the event. Surprisingly, though, it’s not saved for reuse or displayed anywhere, like in a museum, after the ceremony ends.

TikTok creator Paige Thalia noticed that the red carpet isn’t actually kept safe after events – it’s often discarded! And if you politely ask, you might even be able to get a piece of it.

Thalia, a production assistant, managed to snag a large piece of carpet after the 2026 Oscars and took it home with her.

I couldn’t believe it when I saw the videos – Thalia actually fished her dress out of the trash the day after the awards show! She said she managed to salvage even a small piece, and it’s massive! She’s turning it into a rug for her apartment, which is honestly amazing and so resourceful.

She even carried it across the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a place famous for honoring legendary performers with their names and handprints.

“I would like to thank the Academy… for this free rug,” she said in another of the viral clips.

The TikTok creator explained to the New York Times that while the carpet looked okay when she got it, it didn’t seem very durable.

Thalia mentioned that the red carpet was eventually gone from the dumpster when she looked again, preventing anyone else from doing the same thing.

She also noticed pieces of costumes on the carpet and joked she might need to return them. She hopes the academy won’t take legal action against her, like they sometimes do with actors regarding the awards.
