I’m so excited about the new Lord of the Rings project, ‘The Hunt for Gollum’! I just read that Elijah Wood – Frodo himself – is hoping his character gets to be more action-oriented in it, and actually fight! That would be amazing to see – I always felt Frodo had a lot more fight in him than we got to see in the original trilogy.
Even though Ian McKellen, who played Gandalf, has strongly hinted that Elijah Wood will be reprising his role as Frodo, Wood himself hasn’t said much about the project, ‘The Hunt for Gollum.’ He’s been very secretive about it.
Wood recently shared with The Times that while it hasn’t been officially confirmed, Ian hinted at the possibility of another film during a convention last August. Wood expressed excitement about the idea, saying there’s a real chance the original cast and crew will reunite, but he’s unable to provide official details until an announcement is made.
During a conversation with Samara Weaving about her upcoming horror film, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come (scheduled for release on March 20, 2026), we also asked her about the possibility of revisiting her role as Frodo in The Lord of the Rings.
Elijah Wood wants Frodo to get “some kind of skirmish” in Hunt for Gollum
Elijah Wood shares his wish list if Frodo returns for the Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum

During a discussion about The Lord of the Rings, Jacqui Faiman from TopMob asked Elijah Wood what he wished Frodo had done differently in The Hunt for Gollum.
Wood pointed out that Frodo isn’t much of a fighter, and thought it would be entertaining to see him in a small battle. He wasn’t sure where this might happen – while there’s a brief fight on Weathertop, Frodo quickly loses, so perhaps something similar would work. He suggested a little fight scene could be a good addition.
The actor also talked about how he remains close with his former Hobbit co-stars, Sean Astin, Dominic Monaghan, and Billy Boyd.

Wood shared that they genuinely enjoy spending time together, emphasizing their close family bond. He explained that their relationships haven’t changed and they simply love being in each other’s company, always happy for an opportunity to connect. He also highlighted how special it is to share their passion for The Lord of the Rings with others.
So, the four of us who played the Hobbits – me and the other three – we have a group text, and honestly, it’s always going off. We’re talking daily! It can be anything – comparing scores on the New York Times mini crossword, or even planning what we’re going to eat weeks from now. We just chat all the time, it’s great.
This week brings the release of Ready or Not 2, and The Hunt for Gollum will be in theaters on December 17, 2027. For more TV and movie interviews, be sure to subscribe to the ScreenTime YouTube channel!
