New Report Shatters Hopes For The Mandalorian & Grogu Movie’s Grand Premiere

The upcoming Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu, might not have a big premiere event when it comes to theaters. This film is significant because it’s the first new Star Wars movie released in cinemas since 2019’s Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. However, Lucasfilm has decided not to repeat a promotional strategy used for earlier films in the series.

According to Deadline, Lucasfilm’s The Mandalorian & Grogu likely won’t premiere at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. The report also indicated that Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft – The Tour, Pressure, and In the Grey – all films slated for release in May – won’t be shown at the festival either.

Lucasfilm debuted the fifth and final Indiana Jones film, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, starring Harrison Ford, at the Cannes Film Festival in Spring 2023. Unfortunately, the movie didn’t do well financially or receive positive reviews.

Despite costing over $350 million to make, Dial of Destiny earned just $384 million worldwide, making it a very expensive film. It also received the lowest critic score of any Indiana Jones movie on Rotten Tomatoes, earning a 71% rating from critics, though audiences gave it a more positive 87% score.

Okay, so after Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny didn’t really hit the mark, Disney and Lucasfilm are probably extra careful with the next Star Wars movie.
