11 TV Shows We Thought Would Be The Next Lost

Even though it ended nearly 16 years ago, Lost is still unique. It was arguably ABC’s most popular show ever, telling the story of a diverse group of plane crash survivors stranded on a mysterious island. Their struggle to survive isn’t just about the elements – the island feels like something more, almost like a living, supernatural presence.

For six seasons, Lost redefined science fiction with its complex and carefully constructed mysteries. What began as a straightforward story quickly grew into an elaborate mythology centered around the island, captivating audiences and drawing them into a world of puzzles. Though fans continue to revisit Lost for its intriguing secrets, several new shows have since tried to fill the void it left behind.

Travelers

Special Agents From The Future Travel Back In Time

Far in the future, a powerful quantum computer called The Director leads a team of agents—known as Travelers—who travel back in time by inhabiting the bodies of other people. These agents seamlessly take on the lives of their hosts, who range from everyday athletes to influential leaders, all while secretly working to prevent a catastrophic future and keep society stable.

Even though it only lasted three seasons, Travelers is a fantastic science fiction show and a standout post-apocalyptic story on Netflix. The series cleverly combines ancient myths with futuristic technology, creating a captivating backstory for the characters and the mysterious Director. It’s a shame the show was canceled before it could fully develop its potential.

Yellowjackets

A Soccer Team’s Plane Crash Lands In The Canadian Wilderness

The Yellowjackets, a high school girls’ soccer team, are flying to a national championship when their plane crashes, leaving them stranded in the remote Canadian wilderness. Faced with extreme circumstances, the team is driven to desperate measures, ultimately abandoning their morals as they resort to murder, cannibalism, and cult-like behavior to survive.

Beyond its strong performances and memorable music, the psychological thriller Yellowjackets has attracted a dedicated fanbase because of its complex and puzzling storyline. Similar to Lost, Yellowjackets inspires a lot of fan speculation, with theories about everything from who the ‘Pit Girl’ is to the strange and possibly supernatural forces at play in the wilderness. However, Yellowjackets‘ popularity, while impressive, is still much smaller than Lost‘s was at its peak.

Person of Interest

One Man’s Terrorism Defense Turns Into A Dangerous Surveillance Tool

MovieStills DB

The sci-fi series Person of Interest feels more relevant every year. The show centers on Harold Finch, a wealthy, private software engineer who builds an AI designed to predict terrorist attacks. However, the technology is misused and begins targeting ordinary people.

The AI, cleverly named The Machine, unexpectedly gains a disturbing level of awareness, making its powerful surveillance capabilities seem almost supernatural. As the series progresses, The Machine transforms into an unknowable, godlike presence, inspiring either defiance or worship from those around it. Though it shares some stylistic similarities with Lost – including the signature touch of J.J. Abrams – Person of Interest ultimately stands on its own as a unique and compelling show.

Fringe

A Group Of FBI-Backed Investigators Take On Fringe Science

I remember when Fringe first started, it seemed like just another crime show, though definitely a bit odd! But it quickly became so much more. By the end, the show had built this incredible, complex story, and the team investigating these strange cases was almost unrecognizable compared to how they started in season one. It really evolved into something special.

With concepts ranging from alternate realities to a strange language of symbols, Fringe gradually developed a captivating, season-long story. Although many episodes focused on self-contained adventures, dedicated fans became obsessed with uncovering the deeper meaning in every moment, a fascination that stood in contrast to the show’s mixed reviews. Despite this, Fringe is still considered a brilliant but overlooked sci-fi series.

Silo

In A Dystopian Society, People Are Confined To A 144-Level Silo

Like the show Lost, Silo begins as a gripping survival story. The series takes place inside a massive underground silo built hundreds of years in the past. But, similar to Lost, the people living there soon discover a huge conspiracy that will make you question everything you believe.

I just finished watching Silo and wow, it really messes with your head! The whole series revolves around who you can trust, and the mystery at its core is brilliantly frustrating. Basically, everyone inside this massive underground silo has no idea why they’re there. Decades ago, all records of the outside world – and even the silo’s origins – were destroyed, leaving the current inhabitants completely in the dark about their history. It’s a genuinely captivating puzzle, and I was hooked from the start.

The OA

A Multi-Dimensional Mystery Following A So-Called Original Angel

Prairie Johnson, just after turning 21, vanishes without a trace. Seven years later, she unexpectedly returns, but she’s profoundly different – she has deep scars on her back and, surprisingly, can now see, despite being blind for her entire life. While her family and friends are happy to have her back, it’s clear something terrible happened to her, and she’s known as the ‘OA’ – the Original Angel.

The OA steadily gained a dedicated following as its complex, science fiction story unfolded. Just as the show was exploring its most compelling mysteries and the idea of traveling between dimensions, it was unexpectedly canceled. The abrupt ending left fans heartbroken, as the full story was never revealed.

From

A Small Town Is Terrorized By Mysterious Creatures At Night

The new series From is being compared to Lost, but it faces a challenge: it’s hard for shows to become huge hits on television today. From, which you can find on MGM+, is a spooky mystery about a town haunted by its history and terrorized each night by creatures that can change shape. These monsters hunt anyone who doesn’t have a special charm to protect them.

Critical Response To From
Season Rotten Tomatoes Score
Season 1 96%
Season 2 93%
Season 3 100%
Season 4 TBD

It’s interesting to note that both From and Lost share a director, Jack Bender, who helmed some of the most memorable episodes of each show. And with every season, From continues to build a captivating and truly unique mythology. Unfortunately, not enough people are aware of this intriguing series, despite it being as good as—or even surpassing—its predecessor.

The Leftovers

An Exploration Of Those Left Behind After A Major Supernatural Event

After 100 million people mysteriously vanished in an event called the “Sudden Departure,” the HBO series The Leftovers focuses on those who remain. Instead of trying to explain why the departure happened, this critically acclaimed show explores how people cope with the aftermath and the new communities that form as a result.

The show The Leftovers immediately throws you into a world deeply affected by a mysterious event, creating a strong sense of unease and highlighting how little has actually been resolved. Featuring excellent acting from Liv Tyler and Justin Theroux, the series was well-cast. However, despite its potential, the story concluded after only three seasons, leaving viewers wanting more.

Manifest

The Passengers Of Flight 828 Slip Five Years Into The Future

Following the success of Lost, many shows have used a similar mysterious storytelling style. Manifest is the most clear example of a show directly inspired by the classic series. Instead of focusing on the passengers of Flight 815 (like Lost), Manifest centers on Flight 828, which lands after being missing for five and a half years.

Despite trying to stand out with mysterious visions and difficult choices for its characters, Manifest has largely been seen as a copy of Lost. While the show has a dedicated following, it will probably always be compared to and overshadowed by the original series.

Dark

A Confounding Mystery Box That Will Stump Every Viewer

Most sci-fi stories are either fun or thought-provoking, but rarely both. The German series Dark manages to do both, and it’s brilliantly complex. Set in the small town of Winden, the show follows a disturbing pattern of missing children. But the real mystery lies in the secrets of the town’s inhabitants, which spark a compelling philosophical discussion.

Okay, so as a total movie and TV geek, let me tell you about this Netflix series, Dark. It’s seriously perfect. The story follows a group of people who find a way to travel through time, hoping to undo their biggest regrets. But what they discover is you can tweak what happens, but you can’t actually change who you are. It’s one of those shows where you pick up new details with every rewatch—the writing is that good! And honestly, I was blown away by how tightly plotted it was—zero loose ends! It’s a mind-bender, and I’m shocked it doesn’t get talked about more. If you haven’t seen it, you’re missing out on a masterpiece.
