Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Won’t Bring Back 2 Stars for Season 2

The first season of the controversial show has finished airing on Paramount+, and a second season is planned. However, two of the actors from the first season won’t be returning.

After the first season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy finished, the show’s creator, Alex Kurtzman, discussed what’s next for the series. He was directly asked if Anisha Mir (played by Tatiana Maslany) and Nus Braka (Paul Giamatti) would be back for Season 2, or if their stories were finished. Kurtzman confirmed they won’t appear in Season 2, but suggested they might return in a possible future season – Season 3 or later.

Say Goodbye to Anisha and Nus (For Now)

Kurtzman explained that those characters’ stories haven’t finished, but they won’t appear in the next season. However, the team hopes to revisit those storylines in the future and are already considering how to do so.

The threat from Nus Braka’s Omega mine was resolved when the villain was captured, though he wasn’t killed. At the same time, Anisha was finally able to reunite with her son, Caleb (played by Sandro Rosta). While the creators, including Kurtzman, had ideas for continuing their storyline, these characters won’t be featured in Season 2, despite playing a significant role in the first season.

From the beginning, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy has received a divided reaction. While critics generally like it – giving it an 88% score on Rotten Tomatoes – viewers are much more split, with a score of only 51%. It currently has a 4.4 rating on IMDb, and some believe this low score is due to negative reviews intentionally posted to harm the show’s reputation. Furthermore, the show hasn’t performed as well as expected in terms of viewership on Paramount+, falling short of being among the platform’s most popular programs in the US.

Will There Be a Season 3 for Starfleet Academy?

As a big Star Trek fan, I was relieved to hear that despite the mixed reactions to the first season, Starfleet Academy is getting a Season 2! Paramount+ gave it an early renewal, which is great. But honestly, the show needs to step it up a bit to really prove its worth. From what I’ve heard, Kurtzman and the team are planning on bringing in some exciting new characters and even some fun guest stars, and they’re hoping that’ll be enough to win over fans next season.

Kurtzman hinted that Season 2 will feature some exciting new characters and unannounced guest stars who are sure to bring a lot of surprises.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is streaming on Paramount+. Season 2 does not yet have a premiere date.
