Changpeng Zhao, the man whose name sounds like a martial arts move but whose bank account reads like a phone number, has apparently catapulted himself up the list of the world’s richest people. Forbes claims he’s now worth a casual $110 billion, which would put him at 17th on the global rich list-just ahead of people who actually know how to dress themselves without consulting a Twitter poll.
CZ, as the crypto world calls him (because typing “Changpeng Zhao” every time is exhausting), responded with the charm of a man who knows the difference between an exact number and a polite fiction: “not accurate,” he said, and likened rich lists to “guess a number lists.” Which is basically the financial equivalent of me estimating how many Oreos I’ve eaten this week.
Binance: Where Wealth Multiplies Like Rabbits on Energy Drinks
Most of Zhao’s staggering fortune comes from Binance, the crypto exchange he founded in 2017. Binance today is valued at around $100 billion, and Zhao owns a substantial portion, which is convenient because it means he doesn’t have to actually talk to anyone about it. In 2024 and 2025, Binance raked in $16-$17 billion in revenue and somehow processed over $30 trillion in trading volume. That’s roughly 38% of all global crypto trading. If money were water, CZ could probably flood the Atlantic.
Even after stepping down as CEO in 2023, Zhao’s bank account didn’t get the memo: it’s still mostly filled with Binance shares. Some might call this passive income; others might just call it terrifying.

“Guess a Number,” CZ Style
Responding to Forbes’ heroic attempt at arithmetic, Zhao took to X (formerly known as Twitter, for those still recovering from the name change) to clarify that the $110 billion number was “not accurate.”
Apparently, trying to pin down the value of crypto wealth is like trying to nail jelly to a wall. Bitcoin and the broader crypto market are still roughly 50% below their all-time highs, making it a challenge to say whether Zhao is obscenely rich, ridiculously rich, or just accidentally rich.
Crypto Billionaires Invade the Rich List
With Zhao’s meteoric wealth, he now outranks well-known figures like Bill Gates and Mukesh Ambani on some rankings. Which might feel good if you’re a crypto enthusiast, and terrifying if you actually like predictability in the financial world.
And he’s not alone. Giancarlo Devasini, CFO of Bitfinex and Co-founder of Tether, is estimated at $89.3 billion, placing him 22nd. Both men are part of the small, exclusive club of people whose fortunes are basically entirely digital and occasionally volatile-like your Wi-Fi signal during a storm.
