This is important because it allows her to continue developing her popular series, A Court of Thorns and Roses, even with the recent news about Hulu. In a conversation with Alex Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Maas explained that regaining ownership of her books has been a major goal for her lately. She views any potential TV or movie adaptations as extensions of her stories and wants to maintain creative control over them.
Colleen Hoover, another popular author on BookTok, has followed a similar path. After experiencing distress – which she described as PTSD – from having her book It Ends With Us changed during adaptation, she’s taken a much more hands-on approach to all subsequent adaptations, even launching her own production company to maintain creative control.
Sarah J. Maas is currently working on wrapping up four storylines in her A Court of Thorns and Roses series. The sixth book is scheduled for release this October, and the seventh will follow in January 2027. After that, she plans to focus on a television adaptation. “I’m a big fan of TV and want to be involved in bringing the series to life in a way that aligns with my vision and what fans are hoping for,” Maas explained.
