Space Marine 2 DLC sparks backlash with premium voice changer: “Complete buffoonery”

The new paid DLC for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 lets you change your character’s voice, but players are upset. While advertised as including 450 new voice lines, it seems the voice change doesn’t happen consistently throughout the game.

It’s been a year and a half since Spare Marine 2 became a huge hit, and the developers are still adding new features and optional content. Patch 12.0, released on February 26, 2026, introduced a new character – The Techmarine – but most players are talking about something else entirely.

Most of the focus has been on the game’s first premium voice pack. For just $4.99, players can switch up their character’s voice instead of hearing the standard one while battling enemies.

Okay, so on paper, this DLC sounded great – they added 450 new voice lines! But honestly, it’s been a huge letdown for a lot of us. People are actually asking for refunds because the new voice doesn’t even play all the time! It’s super frustrating when you pay for something and it doesn’t consistently deliver what it promises.

Space Marine 2’s voice pack DLC sparks backlash

Players can purchase Chapter Voice Pack 1 for $4.99, which features 450 newly recorded lines of dialogue. This pack isn’t part of any Season Pass and must be bought separately.

When using the downloadable voice pack, the game often switches back to the standard voice, especially when you’re dealing with mission objectives. If the DLC doesn’t have lines for everything, you’ll hear the original Space Marine voice instead, creating a disruptive back-and-forth during gameplay.

Some Steam users have criticized the downloadable content as disappointing and ineffective, while others on Reddit have requested refunds, feeling the voice pack doesn’t justify the price.

One player commented that the experience was disappointing and felt like it didn’t match what was promised.

One player complained that the game’s characters constantly interrupt with directions, which is frustrating considering the developers advertised a lot of dialogue but didn’t record any for objective markers. They called it a ridiculous oversight.

Honestly, I’ve seen a lot of people questioning why the developers even made this voice pack DLC. Some are saying what’s the point if the new voice actor doesn’t cover everything in the game? One person put it really bluntly – they said the whole thing feels like a really bad DLC because it doesn’t fully transform the character into someone new.

One player expressed frustration with some strange choices, saying, “It doesn’t make sense to pay for personalized heads and voices if the accompanying dialogue isn’t comprehensive.”

I’m just sad

The Chapter Voice Pack 1 DLC currently sits at a Very Negative rating on Steam based on just shy of 500 user reviews. Some of the most upvoted reviews label it a “ridiculous cash grab.”

Even if this cost only two dollars, it wouldn’t feel worth the hype. It seems like very little effort went into making it.
