People in Rhode Island worked together to save a cat named Pixie after she was stuck in a tree for two days during the record-breaking February blizzard.
Man, the East Coast has been getting hammered with snow this past week! I saw that Providence, Rhode Island totally broke the record – they’ve already gotten almost 38 inches of snow as of Monday, February 23rd. It’s insane! I’m hoping it doesn’t mess up any gaming events, but honestly, it does look pretty epic.
A severe winter storm, dubbed ‘Hernando,’ brought the heaviest snowfall to the US in ten years, lasting about 36 hours. While most people stayed inside to stay warm, unfortunately, some were unable to find shelter from the extreme cold.
Rhode Islanders rally to save cat trapped in tree during brutal winter storm
During the recent blizzard in Eastern Providence, Rhode Island, a cat got stuck in a tree and spent two days outside in the snow before being rescued.
Despite their attempts to coax her down, Pixie, a housecat, remained stuck in a tree. Firefighters and police officers determined that the severe weather made a rescue impossible.
I was so worried when I heard about a kitty stuck somewhere! Luckily, a local woman named Heather MacKinnon posted about it on Nextdoor, hoping someone could help. The very next day, Matthew Lyons, who works at the Iron Works factory nearby, saw her post with his sister, and they both rushed over to try and rescue the poor thing. It was amazing how quickly they responded!
Lyons climbed the approximately 40-foot tree using a chicken-wire fence as a ladder. He carefully placed Pixie in a backpack before safely descending back down to the snowy ground.
Lyons explained to Boston.com that the woman was extremely frightened and trembling. “She just wanted to feel safe,” Lyons said. “I wrapped her in my sweatshirt for about half the descent, letting her head stick out so she could breathe.”
Pixie, a cat in Providence, Rhode Island, was stranded in a tree for three days during a historic and severe snowstorm. Despite calling the police, fire department, and animal control, rescuers couldn’t reach her due to the blizzard, which brought a record-breaking 37.9 inches of snow.

I was so relieved to hear that Pixie is back home safe! Apparently, her owner was over the moon to have her furry friend back. The reports said she’s doing great and is nice and cozy inside with her family, which is awesome.
Lyons remembered the owners were overjoyed and incredibly relieved to have their cat back, saying they were almost in disbelief.
