Every Major RPG Announced for 2026

2026 looks like an incredible year for RPGs, with a lot of highly anticipated games planned across both science fiction and fantasy settings. We’re keeping a close eye on these titles, which are currently scheduled to release in 2026, though release dates are always subject to change.

The game’s visuals are stunning, the fighting is excellent, and its expansive open worlds feel like a major step forward for the genre.

These RPGs are coming out soon, so let’s take a look at what’s scheduled for release in 2026.

10. Gothic 1 Remake

June 5th

I’m so hyped for the Gothic 1 Remake coming out in June! What I love about the original Gothic – and it looks like the remake will deliver – is how truly weak you start as a character. It’s not just about having low stats, but you feel completely helpless. Seriously, you’ll look ridiculous trying to fight at first, flailing around until you actually learn the ropes. Kingdom Come: Deliverance did a fantastic job with that same idea, but Gothic pioneered it way back in 2001!

I’m seriously hyped for Gothic 1 Remake! They’re completely overhauling the graphics, and thankfully, they’re redoing the voice acting too. Hopefully, the combat will be way smoother and more responsive than the original. If they really nail it, this amazing RPG could finally get the attention it deserves – it’s a cult classic for a reason, and I think a lot more people will love it with a modern makeover.

9. Solasta 2

March 12th

At first glance, this game looks a lot like Baldur’s Gate 3. But it’s actually Solasta 2, and it’s clearly aiming to be a similar RPG experience. Like Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s built on a tabletop-inspired system, hoping to benefit from the recent popularity of classic RPGs. It features stunning visuals and a combat system that can be as complex as you like. However, the most important question for me is whether the story and characters are as captivating as those in Larian’s masterpiece.

I tried the demo, and I’m still on the fence. It looks and runs well, but the characters don’t really stand out, and the story didn’t grab me the way Baldur’s Gate 3 did at the beginning. It definitely has a lot of promise, and with so few CRPG options this year, it could be a big deal when it releases in March.

8. Mewgenics

February 10th

Mewgenics is a truly bizarre and unique game. Created by Edmund McMillen, it challenges you to breed increasingly strange cats and send them into battle against terrifying enemies. After each attempt, you breed new cats from the survivors, inheriting traits that make them even stranger with every generation. It’s a cycle of breeding, fighting, and witnessing increasingly odd creations.

While the game’s graphics aren’t fancy, they have a certain appeal – though be warned, the content is quite unsettling. Within the first few minutes, a cat is shown being blended, so animal lovers might want to skip this one. Despite that, it’s a really enjoyable RPG with incredibly strange and unique gameplay. You can combine cats in hundreds of different ways, offering a surprising amount of variety for such a simple-looking game. It’s easily one of the best games released so far in 2026.

7. Deus Ex: Remastered

2026

Deus Ex: Remastered aims to breathe new life into a franchise that has been historically underappreciated. Hopefully, this updated version will restore the series’ reputation with gamers. The remaster promises improved graphics, helpful new features, and a more contemporary feel – which is important, considering the original game came out over two decades ago.

You play as J.C. Denton, a classic early-2000s protagonist – think leather jacket and sunglasses – caught in a world of political unrest, powerful artificial intelligence, and a spreading plague. It feels surprisingly relevant to today’s issues! The game is incredibly immersive with a fantastic story and some truly unforgettable plot twists. If the remake is done well, it could revitalize this incredible Cyberpunk series.

6. Sovereign Syndicate

2026

Developer Crimson Herring
Release Date February 2026
Platforms PC, PlayStation, Xbox

Sovereign Syndicate successfully builds on the strengths of the acclaimed 2019 RPG, Disco Elysium. Like its predecessor, it’s a narrative-driven game with a cast of quirky and often unsettling characters. Players can choose from several playable characters, each with their own individual story that connects to the larger game world in compelling ways.

This game replaces traditional dice rolls with tarot cards, which is a really neat concept. It functions similarly to dice-based systems, but offers a fresh take that other games could benefit from. The PC version received positive reviews, and console players, who currently have limited options in the CRPG genre, are likely to enjoy it.

5. Greedfall 2: The Dying World

March 12th

Greedfall 2: The Dying World is a promising game, building on the success of the first installment. The original Greedfall was a bit of a test – would players enjoy a role-playing game with meaningful choices, similar to those found in BioWare titles, combined with the look and feel of The Witcher and the detailed world and characters of Dragon Age? It turned out they did! Despite not being a genre-defining masterpiece, the first game was well-received, especially considering it launched in a year with few major releases.

The first game felt like it was trying too hard to include everything players wanted, rather than focusing on a clear vision. Now, the developers have a second chance to fully realize their ideas, and they’re taking a page from the Baldur’s Gate 3 playbook by carefully refining the game through early access. This new installment features real-time combat with the ability to pause, a big change from the fast-paced action of the original. While some players might be hesitant about this shift, the developers at Spiders have stated they’re drawing inspiration from Dragon Age: Origins, which is a great foundation for a successful game. We’ll find out how it all comes together in just a few weeks.

4. The Blood of Dawnwalker

2026

Blood of Dawnwalker immediately drew comparisons to The Witcher after its first trailer, with many calling it a vampire-themed take on the popular game. This is likely due to the involvement of developers who previously worked at CD Projekt Red. While it shares some similarities, Blood of Dawnwalker also has a distinct identity, particularly its dynamic day-night cycle which impacts the missions players can undertake. This time-based system is an intriguing, though potentially challenging, design choice.

This new vampire story is really captivating – instead of simply preying on humans, these vampires aim to take control. It’s a fresh idea in a genre that’s been struggling lately. Recent vampire games, like Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines 2, haven’t quite delivered, and the genre is in need of innovation. The Blood of Dawnwalker could be exactly what it needs, with a talented team and a unique vision that promises something truly special.

3. Fable

2026

I played the original Fable games growing up, and while I enjoyed them, I never truly loved them. They always seemed to overpromise and underdeliver, with missing content and features the developers never actually created. The second game, in particular, felt too easy, making the whole experience feel a bit shallow. However, that was two decades ago, and this new Fable is being made by a completely different team.

This new development team is making big promises, and in today’s gaming landscape, it’s crucial to keep them. This could finally be the moment the Fable series lives up to its potential and becomes the defining RPG it was always meant to be. So far, everything looks fantastic – the graphics, the combat, and the game world itself are all impressive. While I’m still approaching this with caution, I’m hopeful that when the game releases this fall, it will finally deliver on the long-held expectations.

2. The Expanse: Osiris Reborn

2026

Despite being a fantastic sci-fi show, The Expanse never quite became a mainstream hit, which is unfortunate given its compelling world and characters. Similar to how The Witcher gained popularity through its video games, the new game The Expanse: Osiris Reborn could bring the series the recognition it deserves. Developed by Owlcat Games, a studio known for its recent successes, this RPG aims to deliver the kind of large-scale, story-driven sci-fi experience fans have been missing since Mass Effect ended.

The game appears to play a lot like other third-person shooter games where you take cover, and it probably includes special abilities. It’s based on the popular series The Expanse, which is known for its compelling stories – though it’s not yet clear if this game continues an existing plot or starts a new one. Either way, The Expanse offers a rich setting full of political intrigue, diverse locations (both human and alien), and thought-provoking themes like what defines us and the consequences of seeking power. I believe Owlcat Studios, the game’s developer, is poised to become as successful as Larian Studios, and this game could be the one that establishes their reputation.

1. Crimson Desert

3/19/2026

For years, no game has truly challenged The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt as the king of role-playing games. While some have borrowed elements from its quests, story, or characters, none have captured that feeling of being the next major RPG breakthrough—until now. Crimson Desert is the ambitious first single-player experience from Pearl Abyss, the creators of the popular MMO Black Desert Online.

Crimson Desert is incredibly impressive. It features a massive open world with a huge variety of combat, enemies, and things to do. The game has three playable characters and a story that feels like just the beginning of what’s on offer. The scope of the game is truly ambitious. It remains to be seen if it will fully deliver on its promises, but we’ll find out soon – the game releases next month. Right now, it’s a surprising contender for Game of the Year, which is notable considering the upcoming release of GTA 6 later this year.
