The game also lets you build relationships with some of the characters, including romantic ones. Here’s a guide to how romance works on Starsand Island, which characters you can pursue, and how to make it happen.
How Romance Works in Starsand Island
While settling into life on Starsand Island and getting to know everyone, you’ll have the chance to make close friends. And if you’d like, those friendships could even blossom into romance within the game.
Like many life simulation games, Starsand Island (currently in early access) lets you develop romantic relationships with certain characters. You can choose to romance anyone you like, regardless of gender, but you can only be in a relationship with one person at a time.
If you want to start a romantic relationship with a bachelor or bachelorette, you first need to raise their Affection level to 5. This takes quite a bit of time. Once you reach Level 5, you’ll be able to invite them to move in with you – just make sure you have enough room!
We might add features like marriage and starting a family in the future, but right now, the furthest relationship progression is simply living together for characters who are compatible.
How to Increase Affection Levels in Starsand Island
Okay, so if you’re trying to get closer to someone in Starsand Island, it all comes down to raising their Affection level – basically, how much they like you! You can see how well you’re doing with a little heart meter that pops up when you’re chatting with them. And if you want the big picture, the ‘Residents’ tab in the Social app keeps track of everything. It’s super helpful to see how close you are to unlocking the next step in your romance!
Okay, so as I chat with the characters in the game, I’ve noticed I get Affection Points – basically, it’s how much they like me! There’s a limit to how many points I can earn with each character every day, but if I keep at it, those relationships will grow pretty quickly. It’s all about consistently being friendly and helpful, and watching those affection levels go up!
There are a few different ways to increase an NPC’s Affection level, which are listed below.

| Return Lost Items | 20 x Points (per item) | Lost Items are small, stranded gift boxes that you can find in random locations around the map. Pick them up and the dialogue box will indicate whom they belong to. Return them to their respective owner to earn Affection points. If it happens to be the NPC you seek to romance, all the better. |
| Gifts | 10 x Points (liked items) 15 x Points (loved items) | Each day, you can offer an NPC an item from your inventory as a heartfelt gift. If it’s an item they like, you’ll receive 10 Affection points in return. If it’s an item they love, you’ll get 15 Affection points, which is the maximum. However, if you accidentally give them an item they dislike or hate, you won’t get any points. Each NPC has their own likes and dislikes when it comes to items, so be mindful. You can only give one gift per day per NPC. |
