Fans are eagerly awaiting the release of Crimson Desert, and recent trailers have given a glimpse of its gameplay and story. Originally planned as a prequel to Black Desert Online (released in 2014), the game’s developer, Pearl Abyss, has decided to launch it as a completely separate title, built with their new BlackSpace Engine. So, what will players experience in this exciting action-adventure game? Let’s take a look.

Crimson Desert Release Date – March 19th, 2026

Crimson Desert will be released on Thursday, March 19th, 2026. You can pre-order the game now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Mac.

Crimson Desert Gameplay

Crimson Desert is an action-adventure game designed for a single player, set in a vast, open world. Players will primarily control a character named Kliff as they journey across the continent of Pywell.

Okay, so the combat in this game is pretty awesome. You can get up close and personal with melee weapons, or hang back and use ranged attacks. A lot of people are asking if it’s like a Souls game, but honestly, not really. It’s more about a really deep and flexible fighting system. I can chain together crazy combos, switch weapons on the fly, and even launch myself into the air – it’s all about fast-paced, stylish action.

The game won’t be a walk in the park, but that’s okay. Crimson Desert only has one difficulty level, though you’ll be able to make your characters stronger through various upgrades and improvements.

This game doesn’t use traditional experience points or leveling up. Instead, you’ll get better by improving your skills and abilities in different ways.

  • Exploration – Discover hidden areas to unlock new weapons/abilities
  • Combat – Defeat bosses or other tough enemies to gain their weapons/armor/abilities
  • Crafting/Upgrading – Craft equipment or upgrade it at a Blacksmith to improve your equipment

Okay, so leveling up in this game mostly comes down to finding Artifacts scattered around. These aren’t just little trinkets, though – the Abyss Artifacts specifically give you solid boosts to your core stats, like more health, stamina, or damage. They’re a big deal for making your character stronger!

Crimson Desert lets you play as one of three unique characters. Each character can fight with both close-combat and long-range weapons, but they all have their own distinct style. No matter which one you choose, you’ll be able to become incredibly strong as you progress through the game.

Beyond the fighting, Crimson Desert features a massive game world – even larger than Red Dead Redemption 2 – meaning you’ll be doing a lot of exploring. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to get around, including horses, bears, and even dragons! The main character, Kliff, can also glide using stamina to travel quickly across distances.

Kliff might eventually gain access to a flying mech that shoots missiles, but you’ll need to make progress in the game to unlock it.

The world is filled with diverse locations like towns, bandit camps, ancient ruins, caves, and forests. As you explore, you’ll also encounter various characters, and some will offer Kliff quests to complete during his adventure.

Kliff isn’t limited to being a hero. You can actually upset an entire town by stealing from people in the game.

Besides fighting, you can also enjoy peaceful activities like fishing and farming. You can also build and customize your own base, upgrading and maintaining it as you play to create a perfect home.

Crimson Desert Story

Crimson Desert follows Kliff, the head of a mercenary group called the Greymanes. When a competing group, the Black Bears, attacks and breaks up the Greymanes, Kliff must work to bring his people back together.

Throughout his journey, Kliff will face challenges and encounter many different people. However, his main purpose is to ensure the survival of his Greymane clan in the dangerous land of Pywel.
