Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas Is Cooler Than Awards Season

Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, nominated for an Academy Award for her role in Sentimental Value, is remarkably down-to-earth for an awards season nominee. Largely unknown before this year, especially in the United States, she doesn’t seem interested in becoming a celebrity. Her social media presence is simply appreciative, and a recent interview with Variety revealed she finds the whole awards process a bit silly – she’s just much more relaxed and genuine than that.

She explained that her self-worth doesn’t depend on awards or nominations. She sees the whole process as artificial, not a genuine competition. She compared it to creating something months ago and then having someone randomly pick a winner. She found the term ‘snub’ – often used to describe being overlooked – particularly absurd, calling the whole concept ‘insane’ and pointing out it’s a relatively new way of talking about things, even for those actively campaigning for recognition, like Timothée Chalamet and Bradley Cooper.

Despite enjoying the recognition, Lilleaas has expressed doubts about the whole experience. She told Entertainment Tonight at the Oscar Luncheon that the sudden confidence boost feels like it might eventually become a burden. She anticipates feeling pressure to live up to the high expectations that come with the accolades, and worries about when the feeling will change.

Interestingly, avoiding the usual awards season events allows her to focus on what matters: collaborating with people who genuinely want to work with her. As she told Variety, she prefers to be sought out rather than constantly networking and trying to impress others. It’s incredibly refreshing to see someone, especially from Scandinavia, so confidently prioritize authentic connections and not chase validation.
