What happens in the IT: Welcome to Derry trailer?

The trailer for “IT: Welcome to Derry” shows Bill Skarsgård returning as Pennywise the Clown. It also includes nods to the previous two films, like a quick look at where the Paul Bunyan statue will eventually stand. The story takes place in 1962 and draws from extra scenes found in Stephen King’s original novel.

IT: Welcome to Derry takes place in the same universe as Stephen King’s IT, building on the story from his novel and the events of the films IT and IT Chapter Two, directed by Andy Muschietti.

Alongside Alexander Skarsgård, Jovan Adepo, Taylour Paige, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso also star in the show.

The upcoming HBO series, IT: Welcome to Derry, is a collaboration between HBO and Warner Bros. Television. Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs are the creators of the show. Fuchs wrote the first episode and shares showrunning duties with Caleb Kane. Andy Muschietti directs several episodes, and all four of them – Muschietti, Muschietti, Fuchs, and Kane – are also executive producers, alongside David Coatsworth, Shelley Meals, Roy Lee, and Dan Lin.

The new series, Welcome to Derry, will debut on HBO Max on Sunday, October 26th at 9 p.m. Eastern and Pacific time. The show will have eight episodes, and the last one will air on Sunday, December 14, 2025.
