A new expansion for the open-world game Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, developed by Ubisoft Massive, is coming this Christmas. Called ‘From the Ashes,’ the downloadable content will be available on December 19th, coinciding with the release of the new Avatar movie, ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash.’
IGN revealed details about *From the Ashes*, a new story where you play as So’lek, a skilled Na’vi from the Trr’ong clan. After being ambushed and left for dead by the RDA and their new allies, the aggressive Ash clan, So’lek must fight to protect his family.
According to creative director Omar Bouali, the story of From the Ashes begins a few weeks after the release of the Fire and Ash film and about six months following the events of the Frontiers of Pandora expansion and its preceding chapters, The Sky Breaker and Secrets of the Spires.
I’m so excited about the new *Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora* expansion, *From the Ashes*! It takes place in a really interesting part of the Kinglor Forest – a broken, occupied area called The Ravines. Apparently, the story really reflects what happens in the movie, as the RDA teams up with a new Na’vi clan, the Ash People. They’re described as tough warriors who actually *enjoy* conflict, and they’re helping the RDA hunt down anyone who opposes them. Even though the expansion and the movie are set in different parts of Pandora, the developers have been working closely with the film team to make sure everything feels connected and consistent – which is awesome!
Bouali was careful not to reveal too much, but he did suggest that the December release of ‘From the Ashes’ will tie in with an upcoming movie. He kept details limited, offering only a small preview of what players can expect.
According to Bouali, the game and the upcoming film, ‘Fire and Ash,’ share several common elements. The most prominent is the Mangkawn, also known as the Ash Clan, and the Wind Traders, who originated in the game but will also feature in the film. There’s also a unique creature appearing in both projects that the creators are eager for fans to find. Bouali emphasized that the collaboration has been seamless, allowing both teams to contribute authentically and create a consistent experience for fans across the game expansion and the film.
I’m so excited for everything coming to Frontiers of Pandora! Not only are we getting the big expansions, ‘From the Ashes’ and ‘Fire and Ash,’ but Ubisoft Massive is dropping a free update on December 5th – that’s two weeks before the expansions! It’s adding New Game Plus, which is awesome, and finally, a third-person camera option so we can play the game from a totally different viewpoint. It’s going to be amazing!
From the Ashes will cost $20 and is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Ubisoft+, and PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Ubisoft Connect. A $40 edition is also available, which includes both the main Frontiers of Pandora game and this new story content.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
