It’s been nearly a year since Rachel Zegler was last in a movie, but she’s starting work on a new film after her recent movie, Snow White, didn’t perform well in theaters.
Disney’s live-action version of Snow White came out in March 2025, but it wasn’t a success. Critics didn’t like it – it received a 39% rating on Rotten Tomatoes – and it didn’t make much money at the box office, earning only $205 million on a $336 million budget. After that, Rachel Zegler performed on Broadway and in London’s West End, and she became part of the cast of She Gets It from Me.
According to Deadline, Rachel Zegler’s next film, She Gets It from Me, will start filming on February 23rd. Marisa Tomei, famous for roles in My Cousin Vinny, The Wrestler, and Spider-Man, will play Zegler’s mother. Ed Helms, known from The Office, and Nat Wolff, who starred in Paper Towns, are also joining the cast as family members.
The movie She Gets It from Me, inspired by real events, follows Nicky Jannis as she tries to find her birth mother, Charlotte Wolfe, before her wedding. Charlotte has long wondered about Nicky’s life, and while they do reunite, building a relationship proves complicated as they both try to understand what family truly means.
Julia von Heinz is directing the film She Gets It from Me, based on a screenplay by Jay Reiss. Jay Reiss, Anna Werner, Susan Leber, and Jack Chinery are all part of the production team.
Von Heinz stated that many adoption stories center around finding a birth parent, but her film, She Gets It from Me, will explore what happens after that reunion. While the story offers comedic potential, it also raises profound questions about what it means to be a mother.
Most adoption stories center around finding a birth parent, but this film looks at what happens after that reunion. It’s a funny and heartfelt story that asks big questions about what it truly means to be a mother.
Rachel Zegler began her film career with the lead role of María in Steven Spielberg’s 2021 remake of West Side Story. Her performance earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy, and she also received a nomination from the Critics’ Choice Awards.
She went on to appear in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, with the latter earning $347 million in theaters.
Following smaller roles in films like Y2K and Spellbound, Rachel Zegler landed the lead part of Snow White in Disney’s live-action remake. However, the production faced a lot of problems, including criticism of the casting, changes to the depiction of the dwarfs – with Peter Dinklage voicing concerns during filming – and differing political opinions held by some of the main actors.
When the movie finally came out, it didn’t do well with audiences or critics, adding to the problems it already had. It even received multiple nominations at the Razzie Awards – an event that celebrates the worst films of the year – including nominations for Worst Picture, Worst Remake, Worst Supporting Actor, Worst Director, and Worst Screenplay.
Despite receiving negative reviews in theaters, Snow White performed well on Disney+, quickly becoming one of the platform’s most popular releases.
Rachel Zegler paused her film work to return to the stage, but she’s about to start filming again for the first time since completing the movie Snow White.
