Recent reports suggest that two StarCraft-based shooter games are potentially being developed. One of these games is reportedly being created by Nexon, the company behind Arc Raiders.
StarCraft II came out 16 years ago, and the final chapter of its story was released a decade ago. Even after all this time, it’s still one of the most well-known and beloved games in the real-time strategy genre.
Back in 2002, Blizzard attempted to broaden the StarCraft universe beyond its real-time strategy roots with a third-person shooter called StarCraft Ghost, which focused on stealth. However, the project was ultimately cancelled in 2006.
Now, fresh reports suggest StarCraft may be heading back to shooters and not just once.

Nexon reportedly working on new StarCraft project
Rumors surfaced in January about a StarCraft shooter game planned for release at BlizzCon 2026. However, The Korea Economic Daily reports that Nexon, the company behind Arc Raiders, is actually developing its own separate StarCraft game.
According to the report, Nexon has finished initial steps, such as creating a special team and hiring important personnel.
A key new hire is Choi Jun-ho, a lead planner famous for creating the popular custom StarCraft map ‘Shrine Breaker (Shinppu).’ The map was a big hit with players.
His knowledge of the game series could be really valuable, considering he’s successfully designed popular game modes in the past.
Two StarCraft shooters could be coming
Reports began circulating in January that Blizzard was secretly working on a StarCraft shooter played from a third-person perspective. They may announce it at BlizzCon 2026.
Journalist Jason Schreier, in his 2024 book ‘Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment,’ reported on a new StarCraft game in development. He believes this Nexon project is probably separate from the shooter he wrote about, meaning there might actually be two StarCraft games being worked on at the same time.

He stated he doesn’t know if the information is accurate, but if it is, it has nothing to do with the StarCraft-based shooter currently being made by Blizzard’s developers.
That would mark the biggest push for the franchise in over a decade.
Blizzard has previously tried to expand the StarCraft universe beyond traditional real-time strategy games. Back in 2002, they revealed StarCraft: Ghost, a stealth-action game played from a third-person perspective, but it was ultimately cancelled and never saw the light of day.
Since then, the franchise has largely remained dormant outside of competitive scenes and remasters.
Now that Microsoft owns Blizzard, there’s a growing focus on bringing back some of its older, well-known games. Phil Spencer, the head of Microsoft Gaming, has often talked about wanting to revisit classic franchises, and StarCraft is often highlighted as a prime example.
With both Nexon and Blizzard reportedly working on new games, it looks like StarCraft might be making a big return.
After years of silence, the Koprulu sector might be active again.
