Charli XCX is increasingly focused on acting, and now she’s landed her first leading role as someone other than herself. The trailer for her new movie, ERUPCJA, shows her playing Bethany, a woman with doubts about her upcoming wedding while on vacation in Poland. When a volcanic eruption cancels their flight home, Bethany reconnects with a childhood friend, Nel. Their reunions are described as explosive, hinting at a strong connection that goes beyond friendship. While they joke about causing trouble, another character points out the seriousness of their behavior. The trailer suggests a romantic tension is building between Bethany and Nel, potentially threatening Bethany’s relationship with her fiancé, Rob, who seems to be getting left behind.
Directed by Pete Ohs, ERUPCJA arrives in Los Angeles and New York on April 17.
