The new movie featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu is coming soon, but the trailer Disney showed during the Super Bowl left many Star Wars fans confused.
Just to be clear, The Mandalorian & Grogu continues the story started by the popular TV series that launched a whole range of Star Wars shows on Disney+, including Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka, Andor, The Acolyte, and Skeleton Crew.
I’m so excited for the new movie! It’s being directed by Jon Favreau, who created The Mandalorian, and it sounds like Din Djarin and Grogu are going to team up with the Rebel Alliance. Apparently, the bad guys – what’s left of the Empire – are trying to get back together and cause trouble across the galaxy. Not much is known yet, but it sounds like a really epic adventure!
The initial trailer for the show came out in October, offering a preview of the action and introducing Sigourney Weaver, who’s new to the Star Wars universe as a Rebel leader. However, Disney surprised viewers during the Super Bowl with a strange teaser for The Mandalorian & Grogu, leaving many fans puzzled.
The Mandalorian & Grogu Super Bowl spot is a parody of Coors beer commercials
That’s right – the new Super Bowl trailer for The Mandalorian & Grogu is a humorous take on the iconic Coors Banquet beer commercials, and it even features Sam Elliott, who famously narrated those ads!
Disney’s approach is surprising. This is the first Star Wars film released since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, and many fans anticipated a more traditional, exciting trailer instead of a parody.
The new 36-second ad features The Mandalorian and Grogu sledding through the snow with Tauntauns – a playful nod to their distinctive smell! – while a voiceover by Elliott connects to the show’s story and the Mandalorian way of life.
Life often presents choices, but sometimes fate intervenes and directs us. No matter what, we persevere, motivated by a powerful, guiding influence. The road ahead is never simple, but the connections we forge along the way become increasingly strong and resilient. That’s just how it is.
The studio might have been aiming for a broad Super Bowl audience, intending to surprise casual viewers with the announcement of a new Star Wars film coming soon. However, this strategy clearly frustrated dedicated Star Wars fans.
Star Wars fans question “is that all they’re going to show?”

With three months left until the release of The Mandalorian & Grogu, fans are disappointed that the Super Bowl trailer didn’t include any footage from the movie.
Honestly, I saw someone on X say exactly what I’ve been thinking! They were like, “Is that all we’re getting? The movie’s only three months away and we’ve just seen a tiny teaser and a couple of short clips! Please tell me there’s more coming, because if not, that’s seriously let down.”
Many viewers initially believed the short clip wasn’t a Star Wars trailer at all, but an advertisement for something else. One fan commented that it felt more like a brief, attention-grabbing visual—almost like a commercial for Budweiser or a public service announcement—and wasn’t sure what it was trying to be.
People on X expressed disappointment with the trailer. One user initially believed it was a hoax, simply stating, “Wow, that was bad.” Another questioned the quality, suggesting it felt like something quickly generated by artificial intelligence and asking if it represented Lucasfilm’s best work.
