xQc says Overwatch has the highest video game skill gap amidst Rocket League debate

xQc, a popular streamer and former Overwatch professional, has jumped into the ongoing discussion about which video game is the most difficult to master. He disagreed with Jynxzi’s statement that Rocket League requires the most skill of any game.

The conversation started during a livestream when Jynxzi claimed Rocket League is uniquely challenging compared to other games.

Man, I’m telling you, Rocket League is the most skill-based game I’ve ever played, hands down. Seriously, I can’t think of a single game that demands more from you than Rocket League does.

The comment immediately got a reaction from xQc, who quickly brought up Overwatch in the discussion.

xQc disagreed with Jynxzi’s claim that Rocket League has the highest skill gap. He argued that Overwatch is much more demanding, requiring players to think strategically, communicate effectively, and make constant adjustments on the fly, making its aiming style the most complex and difficult.

xQc responded, explaining that “Overwatch” requires quick thinking and adaptation during gameplay, along with constant communication and strategy. He believes it has the most demanding aiming mechanics of any game, making it exceptionally challenging.

Rocket League caster fires back

The argument intensified after Rocket League commentator Stumpy publicly disagreed with xQc’s opinion on X (formerly Twitter).

Stumpy argued that Rocket League is far more demanding in terms of skill than Overwatch. He pointed out that in Overwatch, even a professional player would likely be defeated by a team of amateurs, while a retired professional player was able to beat seven amateurs in Rocket League, demonstrating a significant difference in the skill required to compete at a high level.

Honestly, I didn’t really get what he was getting at either. xQc totally called it out, pointing out that judging how hard something is just by making the fight super unfair doesn’t really make sense. He basically said, ‘What’s the point of even trying if it’s a completely lopsided battle?’

One way to measure how hard a game is could be by seeing how often a top player can win. For example, Jynzxi, a skilled Rocket League player, only managed to beat a professional player about once every twelve attempts. Rocket League is challenging because the skills don’t easily translate to other games, and first-person shooters are even harder since players often have years of dedicated practice. (And, as one person put it, Rocket League requires a lot of mental skill – ‘RL brain’!)

So, Stumpy explained things a bit more, and I totally get where he’s coming from. He said those crazy 1v7 clips aren’t the only way to see how hard Rocket League is, but he really emphasized just how much depth there is to the game. It’s not just about those flashy plays – there’s a lot going on under the surface!

He acknowledged that skill isn’t the only factor, explaining that Rainbow Six Siege is more challenging than Overwatch. It’s not just about transferable skills; Siege has unique gameplay elements that even highly experienced players – those with thousands of hours of playtime – can struggle with consistently.
