Sony has filed a patent for technology that would allow AI to create podcasts featuring the voices of characters from PlayStation games. This suggests Sony is working to offer players more customized and individual experiences.
According to a recent report from VGC, a new filing details technology that uses artificial intelligence to create personalized audio updates for players, based on their individual game data.
A patent for ‘LLM-Based Generative Podcasts for Gamers’ was filed in July 2024 and officially approved in late January 2026.
The plan, as described in the document, is to create a news podcast where the news is read in the voice of a character from a video game that the listener plays.
Sony patent shows off new use for AI in gaming
As a gamer, it’s so frustrating when platforms don’t really get what I want or need! This patent basically points out that right now, game platforms aren’t great at keeping us informed about what’s new or happening within the game itself. It claims there just aren’t any good systems in place to solve that problem – which I totally agree with! It feels like they’re missing a big opportunity to connect with players better.
Sony explained that the system will work like a custom gaming newsfeed, displaying updates on games you’ve played, what your friends are playing, and new games in genres you enjoy.

As a gamer, I think this podcast could be really cool! They could pull info from all over – official game sites, blogs, and even my gameplay data to make each episode unique. Sony’s talking about making it more than just one person talking at me, too. Imagine a conversation between characters from the same game, or even characters crossing over from different games – all based on what I like to play! That sounds way more engaging.
Like many patents, it’s not certain if Sony will actually make this technology available to the public. However, this isn’t the first time Sony has experimented with artificial intelligence ideas.
The company had previously patented an AI feature – a kind of “ghost” player – that could finish parts of a game for players who are struggling. This shows their growing focus on using artificial intelligence to change the way people play games.
