Adrianne Curry, the original winner of America’s Next Top Model, is speaking out in a new Netflix documentary about the show’s history. ANTM first aired on UPN in 2003 and ran for six seasons. After UPN merged with The WB to become The CW in 2006, the show continued until it was cancelled in 2015. VH1 briefly brought it back in 2016, but that revival only lasted two years.
A three-part documentary called Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model begins airing on February 16th and will explore the many controversies surrounding the show. However, former judge Janice Dickinson believes it’s pointless to judge the show by today’s standards. She recently shared on social media that she thinks ‘psychoanalyzing’ the show after so many years with a focus on ‘wokeness’ is ridiculous, and she also confirmed that she declined to be involved in the documentary, as did the show’s creator, Tyra Banks.
I avoid all interviews and public appearances because I don’t want my words taken out of context by the media. The public can be harsh and unforgiving, and I prefer to keep my private life private. I’m worried the other women involved might have their words misrepresented in the upcoming Netflix show. I have no faith in producers and have no interest in being in the public eye anymore – I’m fully retired from Hollywood.
The trailer for Reality Check shows Banks admitting she pushed things too far, saying it was intense but the contestants wanted it that way. Creative director Jay Manuel also revealed Tyra Banks was willing to do whatever it took to make the show successful. Throughout its run, America’s Next Top Model (ANTM) faced accusations of fat-shaming and other problematic behavior.

After winning America’s Next Top Model, where she competed against Shannon Stewart and Elyse Sewell, Curry signed with Wilhelmina Models in New York City. She quickly began working with major brands and publications, including Life & Style, Us Weekly, Star, OK!, Stuff, People, Maxim, Von Dutch, Macy’s, Famous Stars and Straps, Lucky, and Ed Hardy. She also graced the cover of Playboy magazine in both 2006 and 2008.
Throughout her career, the reality star remained active in television, hosting The Surreal Life for three seasons. She also made appearances as Danushka on the sitcom Hot Properties, and guest-starred on shows like My Fair Brady, Celebrity Paranormal Project, Celebrity Family Feud, World’s Dumbest, and The Tester.

In 2023, actress Aisha Curry faced criticism online after suggesting that Melanie Lynskey, a star in The Last of Us, didn’t have the right physique to play the character of Kathleen Coghlan. Curry posted a now-deleted tweet stating the villain should be muscular, prompting a direct response from Lynskey: “[The character is] supposed to be smart, ma’am. I don’t need to be muscly. That’s what henchmen are for.”
