Everything we know about Control Resonant

The world of Control is expanding in a surprising new way. Seven years after Jesse Faden’s adventures in the Oldest House, her brother Dylan will be the main character in the upcoming sequel, Control Resonant.

Remedy Entertainment revealed Control Resonant at the 2025 Game Awards, and it’s the next installment in their strange, captivating, and interconnected story. However, it’s going to take the series in a surprising direction. Does that make sense?

The original Control, while confusing at times, still felt familiar to other games made by Remedy. It was basically a third-person shooter. But now, the developers are trying something completely different – a third-person game centered around melee combat instead.

Plus, the story features a new main character, takes place in a different location, and has a lot of new plot points to consider. Here’s what we’ve learned about Control Resonant so far.

Does Control Resonant have a release date?

Control Resonant is definitely planned for release in 2026. However, the exact release date beyond that is still unknown.

Initial reports hinted at a release in the second quarter of 2026, but developers quickly dismissed those claims as just guesses.

We’ll just have to wait and see what happens next. Don’t worry, we’ll share all the latest updates with you as soon as we have them.

What platforms will it be on?

Control Resonant has been confirmed for PC, mac, PS5, and Xbox Series X | S.

Currently, it’s unknown if Resonant will be released on the Nintendo Switch. However, Remedy Entertainment’s previous games, like Alan Wake Remastered and Control Ultimate Edition, were eventually ported to the Switch, so there’s a chance Resonant could be too, at some point in the future.

What is the story about? Sequel details

Okay, so it’s not Jesse Faden we’re playing as this time around! Instead, we get to experience the story through her brother, Dylan. I’m really excited to see things from his perspective!

Seven years after the original game, a new threat called The Hiss has emerged. These otherworldly beings are determined to cause chaos, and they’ve escaped containment. Previously, they were trapped within the Oldest House, but now they’re spreading throughout the streets of Manhattan.

For reasons nobody understands, Director Jesse has asked her brother to go to the streets of New York and remove everyone from them.

Remedy says the next game will tell its story in a very different way, and that you won’t need to have played the original game to follow what’s happening in Resonant.

We’re a bit skeptical of those claims. Like most Remedy games, Resonant will almost certainly connect to the larger story found in Alan Wake, Alan Wake 2, Max Payne, and Quantum Break. To fully understand it, you’ll probably want to familiarize yourself with those other games first.

How gameplay differs from the first Control

The second game in the series feels a bit different to play than the first. Sorry for the joke!

Okay, so it looks like this time around, there aren’t any guns! Instead, Dylan’s getting right into the action, basically hand-to-hand combat with this cool weapon called the Aberrant. It’s a lot more personal and up-close than what we’ve seen before, which I’m really excited about!

Resonant takes place in a large city and offers expansive areas to explore, with a focus on revisiting places – much like the first game. However, it’s not a fully open-world experience; you won’t find a map filled with traditional quests and markers.

The game will feature optional side missions that will likely reward Dylan with upgrades, such as stronger attacks or new ways to move around. Players will also have a lot of freedom to customize their character and play the game in a way that suits them best.

Trailers

So far, our only information comes from the announcement trailer shown at the 2025 Game Awards. That’s where we first saw gameplay footage and learned that Dylan is the main character.

So, that’s pretty much everything we know about Control Resonant right now! I’m definitely going to keep checking back for updates as we get closer to the release – I can’t wait to learn more!
