Andrew Guest, the showrunner for Wonder Man, recently shared details about what happens to Josh Gad’s character after the season finale, and hinted at how it could set up a potential second season.
All eight episodes of the new Marvel series, Wonder Man, are now available to watch on Disney+. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II stars as Wonder Man in a story that playfully acknowledges its own comic book origins.
We gave the series a 2 out of 5 star rating, and in our review of Wonder Man, we explained that it feels less like a complete show and more like a drawn-out, disappointing introduction to something bigger.
The film also playfully pokes fun at Hollywood itself, featuring several stars appearing as themselves – notably Josh Gad, whose character from the Marvel universe faces a surprisingly grim fate. Be warned: spoilers follow…
What happens to Josh Gad in Wonder Man?
In the series Wonder Man, actor Josh Gad’s character becomes trapped inside the superhero Door Man, and it’s left ambiguous what ultimately happens to him.
Everything takes place in Episode 4, a self-contained story about a bouncer who gains the ability to let people pass directly through his body.
Using his powers, he rescues people from a fire, earning him the nickname “Door Man” and a job as the superpowered valet for actor Josh Gad.
Door Man quickly found success, landing parts in a movie and on several sitcoms, and even appearing in a commercial for a laxative. Around this time, he also began using the now-famous phrase ‘Ding Dong.’
Then, Josh Gad’s character attempts to pass through someone, but vanishes in the process. The actor remains missing for months afterward, and this is where Wonder Man Season 1 ends.
Josh Gad could be new Door Man in Season 2

Andrew Guest, who co-created and runs the show Wonder Man, recently spoke with Jacqui Faiman from TopMob. We used the opportunity to ask him about what happened to the character Gad.
According to creator Craig Guest, Josh Gad is currently playing the character ‘Inside Door Man.’ If the show gets a second season, Guest intends to bring Gad’s character back into the main world and move him beyond the role of ‘Inside Door Man.’
Guest also wonders about the future, suggesting that Josh Gadd might develop Door Man-like abilities after spending so much time inside him. He even proposes that Josh Gadd could become the new Door Man!
